Xmas Match, Woodlands 19.12.21

 Xmas Match Trinity Woodlands

I’ll just start off with my anniversary of the blog, yes it’s this time last year I wrote my first blog, can’t be to bad as it gets enough hits 😁 hard to start with but I’d like to think I got in the swing of things & didn’t bore everyone 😁🎣..

So let’s get on with it, this week I was the first one there as I was meant to be meeting Guru, Nick Selway & Stan at Sedges for a breakie 😁 but I was running late so that didn’t happen Ah Well more sausages for Nicky S. Shane soon turned up so quick catch up before the car park started to fill unfortunately Locky was working so a DNW from him, shame as I was in the mood to give him another Skill School lesson 🤣🤣

The draw - Westy drew me 9 yeah I thought that’s ok👌for company I had Danny to my right & Richie Cole’s to my left. So today was all about bites with 24 on lake it was always going to be tough going & it certainly was. I did make a massive school boy error & didn’t dress for the cold winters day ahead & I was absolutely freezing 🥶so concentration levels were very low by 13.00hrs the lake fished really hard resulting in blanks with some I did manage to put on 4lb 6oz & loosing a good bream on the tip (cage feeder) so that put me 4th for Silvers I was quite happy with that, tbf I wasn’t really in the mood so I fished a really simple match 12m the tip & a margin which I did think would produce, it didn’t.

Kingy was on great form winning from peg 32 he was gutted to be drawn that, he & Dave Bagger Allen fished a blinder. Bagger Knewll done 3rd also fishing a blinder. Richie done very well I watched him today & he is class, he gave me a royal spanking same as Danny really good Silvers Anglers.

After the match those that wanted to go back to the 37 Club did to warm up with some scran & a pint. That’s the thing it was great day paid for by the club & everyone had a prize, can’t ask for more really. I’d like to thank Guru Phill for his work all year plus Westy & Kingy for all their efforts they really do a great job.

Shane for the constant bookings - those guys ring all the time no matter what the time is & Tony Fry for helping Shane & Westy, Kingy on the match days. Tony’s wife did the hampers & they looked great thank you Gail 👏👏👏 also Westy’s wife for getting the Vino, chocolates etc. Plus Nick Selway for contributing four Turkeys & loads of eggs that was really good of you buddy 👏👏👏

That’s about it from the match front there really wasn’t much to write about from point of view. That just leaves me to wish you all a very Merry Xmas & a Great New Year. Tight lines & see you on the other side XX 😁👍🎣

Summerhayes Longs 28.11.21

 Summerhayes - longs

The forecast was absolutely horrid for the weekend with Sunday being the better day but still very cold with a north westerly choppy wind & shore enough it was, tbf I didn’t feel so bad as I’d invested in some new clothing a Preston Celcius hooded jacket along with their line of thermal Joggers, I felt like Mitchelin Man but I could move so happy days 😁

I like this lake a cracking snake lake full of fish & well kept by Pete.

The turn out for today was good with 18 so a lot of other club guys like it here aswell..

the usual chit chat in the car park & on to the draw, I hanged it out towards the end I put my hand in to get 28 happy with that to my left was Danny I could see Kingy just past him then the bend so I couldn’t see past, to my right but one (empty) was Guru Beardsy, nice company but you wouldn’t hear them to the motorway.

So this was going to be extra hard today & god it was apart from one who started his mission without haste Kingy he started catching from the off & fair play to him it was calculated precise & executed like a consult.

I watched Danny scratching around for bites & like me aside, it was awful totally biteless by 13.15hrs not an indication WOW Danny had a few but nothing great Beardsy was doing ok he was on 3 carp I want to say. Not sure what he’d done but it was better than me 😁👍 & Kingy was still on his mission to empty & he was 😁

I went for a natural relief & passed Kingy he stopped me & asked how it was I told him biteless & fair play to him he gave me a Skill School Lesson he said I like you your my mate so here’s  what ? 😁😁

Back to my peg & on with more sections to give me 15m including the dolly butt this was me until 3,30hrs very hard in the wind but it was ok, it got me bites & 4 get out of jail carp. Thank you buddy a great lesson 😁👍🎣

Jordy Eric drove past around lunch time said he was going home biteless & when Matrix Tony came by he said a few had gone including Locko, shows how tuff going it was. oh by the way Kingy is still bagging 🤣🤣😁

The all out was called by Guru & I was glad to hear it but tbf the wind went at the same time which would of made things easier but not sure about catching lol 😂

Sum it up, a really good lesson given on a extremely hard day as you can see by the sheet fair play to Kingy who smashed out a smidgen under 140lb 👏👏👏👏 Westy just crept past me that’s not happened on this lake for a while but yes you are a lot better than me lol 😂 Guru Beardsy took are side bets well done buddy 👏👏👏

I’m not around now for a couple of weeks as it’s my turn for a long earnt holiday first one this year.

If anyone would like to do a blog for the couple matches let me know & I’ll put it up 👍👍 otherwise it’ll be the sheets,

Tight lines as always 😁👍🎣

Woodlands 21.11.21

 Trinity Woodlands

So anther Sunday another club match plus the last Silvers match this side of Xmas. The turnout numbers were good so a massive Pat on the back to Kingy you ran this like a pro & you certainly got the guys very upbeat.

This was probably the breaker silvers match, on the sheet it’s quite tight but I felt this was

going to change today??

I drew 10 not really where I wanted to be in a perfect world but the forecast said quite something else a sharp north wind, that was going to hit the guys in the face on the near bank.

I had big John to my right & Sausarge to my left I was quite happy with that good company tbf.

My out look was simple silver fishing long & short plus the margin. All set up so a quick visit to my mate Locko & he was quietly confident & rightly so next to him Richie Cole’s plus Rob Eagle on are side so this could get a bit chewy.

On the whistle & everyone ones away Kingy opposite so I could keep my eye on him as it’s tight with us on the sheet, the day was going ok until around 12 then the lake seem to shut off completely I was watching the guys scratching around for bites including myself, I went down my margin around 1 & as I lifted out I foul hooked a unit that went off like a train blowing my 3 section with a bang & taking the lot, that was the pole over for me as I don’t carry my spare 3’s.

I just chucked out a cage feeder for the last remaining time we had as I put all my rigs away.

The scales came down which gave me 10lb 3 oz I was happy with that as it was good enough for a win on are side, Danny just done me 10lb 15oz & Kingy went on to win the silvers with 12lb ?oz another one to me for Locky & Westy welcome to Skill School ha 🤣🤣🤣 yes Westy there are silvers on those pegs buddy you need to talk more quieter to Kingy on the phone 🤣🤣👍🎣

Took my side bets off Matrix & Guru pictured 😁

Next week Summerhayes have a good week, book in with Shane if you haven’t, see you there tight lines 👍🎣

Sedges 14.11.21

 Sedges Brick 14.11.21

This week we’re on Brick at Sedges as always I met up with Matrix & Guru, it wasn’t long before Jamie came out & opened the gates to let us in. The lakes looked great the weather forecast was set to be good so game on.

It wasn’t long before Westy, Kingy & Bagger Allen pulled up.

We went for breakfast at their cafe, I have to say 10/10 it was great - fresh, hot & good value can’t ask for more & that’s coming from a Chef 👩‍🍳

Locky joined us & so did Ducky Junior, Nick Selway, the banter was going well, I did ping Westy picking up some Gb - intelligent dark hmm 🤔 interesting, well, not really because if he used it today he bummed out I’d take it back buddy or bin it off 🤣🤣🤣

On to the draw I got 18 means not a lot as the last time I fished this lake was about 3yrs ago for one match. I did do a little research in the week with Paul Berry & Locky said the favoured pegs were further up, we had a good line up our side starting with B. Chives, Danny next to me & the other side was Ducky Selway, T. Knewll, Martin, Bagger Allen & well you can see by the sheet. With things being pretty hard I was going with caution 12m in front and a short line of micro & corn & the tip to the airiator. Across was my mate Kingy ha 🤣 giving me the finger every time he had a skimmer & tbf he was consistent all day Sausage to his right, Locky in the middle they were all catching, Big John was catching carp & Guru had a couple of Carp to take his side bets 👍👍🎣🎣

I carried on most of the match on the 12m line it got stronger in the afternoon then the carp moved in luckily the hook lengths went but I’d like to have got a anther one in as that would have got me probably 4th overall, I had an eel, na I don’t like them for sure. So Westy what went wrong then??  no excuses this week as we were all fishing to the death but you were in a more favoured area haha 😁😁 I did have to laugh as Nick was abusing Kingy & he got straight in Kingy head haha 😂 to the point he wouldn’t look 👀 at us don’t like your own medicine then boyo 👦 haha. Danny said to me its not often I get my ass kicked but you’ve given it a proper boot 🥾- nice 👍🎣 maybe Danny lost the plot especially when he was seen standing up & started to ball in tennis balls WTF haha 😂

Locky gave me a nice compliment “you did good Shag off a not a good peg”.

So the league sheet has proper shuffled which I didn’t expect tbf but nice.

Next week it’s Trinity so what’s going to happen there?? I reckon the Silvers boys might get some lbs back, this is the banker round it’ll be hard to come back if you bin this round off ? could the writing be on the wall ?? let’s see 😁😁👍👍🎣🎣

I’m going there a couple of times this week to see what’s happening as I’m on holiday 😁😁👍🎣

Have a great week & tight lines.

Monday 8 November 2021

Shiplate 07.11.21

So this week we’re at Shiplate but this week there’s a start of a twist, we have our first Winter League for HLS organised by Kingy & I have to say he’s doing a excellent job 👏👏 this series has certainly got enough interest to give us 21 club members this week, I think I’d be right to say if we weren’t running this we’d be on 14-16 something to bare in mind. I pulled into the car park with Guru & Matrix Tony, we had a good catch up as the other guys were starting to fill the car park.

Looking at the lake it does look the business a well kept & maintained lake a compliment to the team there your doing a fantastic job, pegs 2 -9 did look pretty cold mind with a harsh breeze howling down through, the other side was like a different world full sunshine & a little ripple. Well I know where I want to be & sure enough I drew 12A Awsome I’m in for a nice day if nothing else & even better I had great company for the day, to my right was silver expert Steve Cole’s & my left was Kingy haha he’s gonna get a lesson from Skill School 😁

Looking straight across was Guru Beardsy, Locky & Rich Cole’s what a line up pure class, unfortunately there sat in the middle of winter 🥶 they looked freezing as me & Kingy were stripping layers off ha 🤣🤣

My day was set for all out Silvers - 12m in front Maggots over Gb then a short line to Micro & Corn for the hook, I did a cage feeder but to be fair I didn’t really give it chance.. Popping into Kingys peg before the all in, it didn’t look much different to me we both had Expanders & Worms for a change well that’s my opinion Kingys might be different??

The all in & I watched Kingy on the cage feeder & he was getting one a Chuck, it was a little slow for me but that’s cool as I prefer to build & read my swims. I fed nuggets & maggots all day to keep the bites coming basically fishing it all out, nice day,  the short line - that didn’t do a lot apart from a couple small silvers a better one that the hook pulled out & a unit - carp, that I got in on 7 Lacky on a 0.11 bottom to a 18 I was pleased with that but obviously not what you want today anyway. The 12m line I kept quite strong I did get a couple better skimmers that just dropped off for what ever reason & took another Munter, it didn’t really happen after that. Kingy did his fair share of whining my god did he, me & Steve had a running commentary of the boys opposite when Locky & Richy started to catch steady, Locky was strong all day tbf Guru had a couple of carp on the tip & Richy was catching. Ducky Junior the egg man Selway was doing what he does best catching later ha 🤣👍. The weigh in & Westy was favourite to win yep he did with 32lb of Silvers on Corn & soft pellet on the pole well done buddy very good Angling, Locky done 2nd thought he’d be up there. Walking back a few of the Silvers guys were saying not good it didn’t happen for them. I was really happy with what I’d done to get mid field on the sheet. It was a lovely day with great company can’t ask for more. Well. Things are starting to warm up with a simmer going. This Sunday it gets a little more serious as theres a lot in it, it’s going to warm up very quickly & I’m up for it - just keep those bite coming, a fantastic league fished by a fantastic Club. 😁😁

See you there tight lines 👍🎣🎣

Tuesday 2 November 2021

Avalon 31.20.21

This week we’re at Avalon great all round venue, I was the first to arrive followed by Shane & it was bucketing down but the forecast was to improve by 09.00 o’clock. I had a guest with me this time Ian Townsend a proper broad brummie, he seemed to settle in very quickly & found the guys very friendly, absolutely they are..

On to the draw & I had 31 roadside for company - Guru’s on 30 & Ian Townsend on 32 a nice day ahead.

The wind was for-casted to replace the rain with this in mind 2 plus 2 maggots & 10m with GB with maggots again, down the left edge dead maggots.

I had set up a ten foot tip rod with a pellet feeder just in case that may work but I had no island chuck so I didn’t really have any confidence with that.

Long story short the fishing was really tuff going. Guru didn’t get a fish on the tip even tho he had a good island chuck, Ian was picking up a few on the tip with his island chuck & a couple down the edge on meat & corn. Guru went down the edge on worm & had a nice carp. I however couldn’t get anything the wind was a massive issue tbf & the fishing was very hard, but, I had a great day I enjoyed it I had good company either side so what’s not to Luv.

Our Silvers league starts this Sunday Kingy has put himself out to arrange this for us, I’d just like to get that in there. So I hope it’s appropriated.

We have a full house for the next 6 weeks with the exception of the bigger lakes that hold more pegs, this is gonna be a good bit of fin with a lot of competition to fish for.

We start at Shiplate so let the tournament begin 👌😀 🎣 I know this could be very interesting I’m really up for it & I know everyone else is - 😁🎣

See you there have a great week & tight lines 😁👍🎣

Woodlands 24.10.21

 Woodlands

I got to say I was quite up for this weeks match as it’s one of my favourite venues, when I arrived I met Matrix Tony Fry we had a good catch up then the car park started to fill up it wasn’t long before we were on the draw after Westy Kingy & Big John - he’s the venue expert done the pegging 👍 I drew 14 Awsome peg & Big John was on 12 & Dave T was on 16. Across from me was Jordy Eric, Dave & John Wolvenscroft followed by Sausage & Kingy.

My match consisted of 12m in front worm over Gb a short line 2+3 corn & Gb and the left edge maggots.

I did go on a pellet feeder to my left in front as I know that can be good for carp, an hour in & nothing just a couple of twitches. I’m pretty much in winter fishing now as my outlook just looking for bites.

I went on the 12m line & had a carp straight away that’s a bad omen for me so quick however I lost it with my rig. I went straight back out & had a skimmer after a while pretty slow going, I had a look on my my short line & that got me another skimmer so slow & steady I was thinking just building my swims up. 12.30 I fed my edge to get that started this is where everything just goes tits up. I went back on my short line as I was getting bites, I dropped my rig in to start shipping out & I hooked a snag in front for the second time second rig this time the elastic snapped & left the rig there idle hooked to the snag, I tried endlessly to get it out with my landing net to no avail just wrecking my peg. Bad news as I couldn’t fish with that hanging rig as any carp I would hook would get in that rig or skimmer tbf as it was right in front of me. I lost my rag & my match was done 😥 as I walked back with my kit some of the guys said fish around it I couldn’t it would have been carnage. Dave T was catching catching carp accidentals as he goes for Silvers walking past Jordy he was trying to get his rig back from the edge he’d hook by mistake, I did see him have a couple when I was on my peg. Dave was starting to catch he’d also had a couple carp. John W was saying it was hard going but had some carp, explaining he’d fished the Cleveland match before with 90 something lb on 16 recently. Then I got to my mate Kingy he’d been catching but saying it was hard today, whilst I was with him briefly he started to catch good Silvers on the long pole - I bet he frames even tho he was moaning 🤫🤣🤣 Bagger Knewll was on eight carp that’s why I call him Bagger 👍😁 he said it was going to be a tip day last week, so I’d imagine it was 👍 bomb & pellet if I had to bet ??

I spoke to Kingy this evening when he sent the sheet over - you always come good fair play last hour got you out of jail. Matrix Tony fry don’t worry buddy I’ll give you your side bet at Avalon 👍👍..

My day just one to forget - carnage. On to the next, Avalon let’s hope I can draw good again 👍🎣

Please can you book in with Shane by Tuesday as he has to give numbers to Vic by Tuesday evening..

See you next week tight lines 👍🎣

Landsend 17.10.21

 Landsend

First match back after a few weeks due to work & a bit of R/R.

Firstly the three musketeers or should I say rugrats sat in a caravan at White-acres will be reading this - Locky Nick Selway & Richie Cole’s on it if I know you boys 😁🤪🍺🍷

So let’s get on with it, I had to follow the Guru & Matrix Tony this morning as I never really go to this venue, arriving in the car park we had a quick catch up listening to Guru on about his up coming weekend away at the Jamaican inn apparently its haunted I’d love to be a fly on the wall good luck Mel I got a feeling your gonna need it 🤣🤣🤪.

It wasn’t long before Locky & Nick came over to see us giving me a bit of attitude about today’s side bets, I took Locky up on his offer then I thought yeah why not take a nugget off Nicky like taking candy off a baby I thought EASY money 😁 then Kingy said he’d like to have an earner I declined but kicked myself at the end as another baby to give me his candy 🤣 side bets on with Guru & Matrix Tony game on.

On to the draw I had 11 didn’t mean a thing to me apart from Bagger Knewll whining about our side saying it wasn’t the side to be on ??

I had for company Locky on 9 so he’s in for lesson of Skill School today. The all in was called & he was straight in & so was a couple others looking down through. My outlook was pretty basic winter fishing tbf maggots over GB at 13m, maggots down the track & my left edge which I changed to my right at 14.30.

Yeah across was good for silvers & 1 carp, that was drying up so on to the track which was primed & ready to go, I had a little run of silvers then back across. I tried mugging some carp but that wasn’t working so I was just rotating doing some changes to keep the bites coming.

An hour to go let’s have a look down the edge good for small carp & silvers alike. I could here my mate Locky deep sying & winging like a biatch haha 😂 I could also here Nicky yapping like a little Jack Russel shame I couldn’t here you Richie as I’d liked to have heard you winging aswell 🤣🤣 oh yeh you weren’t there to take the pleasure of me doing you 🤣🤣🤣 well Westy oh Westy another to me - this is getting regular what’s going on - I know I done you again 🤣🤣..Should have took you up Kingy on the nugget you seemed to know how my match went better than me so you had a bit of neck ache did you?? talking about Necky - yeh I spose I am 🤣🤣🤣

Have good week at white acres boys 👍🎣🍺🍷Locky I showed you some skill school so put it in to practice our score has been settled.

See you at Trinity - I’m gonna pay for this 😳😳😁😁 Tight Lines 👍🎣

Viaduct Campbell 10.10.21

This picture just flashed up on my FB Timeline from the Viaduct Fishery Team, so I thought it was very appropriate to put this picture on the blog.

Wow just Wow fair play to you Westy, I bet you got the Silver anglers amongst us green with envy 😁👍🎣

I have put a comment on their FB correcting Martin’s name 👍🎣

26.09.21 Hawthorn

 26.09.21 Hawthorne

Managed to get on this one as one of the guys cancelled, after booking in with Shane I fancied it tbf.

I flew a Pm to Dave White for some tips, he put me right - so all good.

Turning up I could see a few of the lads well if the devil could cast his net & all that they’d be caught, Matrix Tony Kingy, oh & my favourite little chap WESTY - long story short Westy blew out again with a superb DNW 🤣🤣🤣👍🎣

On to the draw & Matrix drew for Kingy Peg 15 WHAT 😅 & he Drew 12 for Westy - flyer.

On to my draw & 2 was pinged, Danny on 1 Rob E on 3 & top Mucca Locky on 4 good line up, these boys are class.

So 13.5 over, maggots over maggots best line. 10m to the left worm & caster fed but didn’t bother 2x2 in front maggots short rather than meat, I’m not a meat guy tbf 😳

Down the left edge was loads of cover & a tree stump got to be Carpy it was for 2 rouge Carp. Spent all day on the long line loosing loads of carp that were foul hooked, I was expecting Rob to tell me off as a few went out of my peg but top man he didn’t care 😁👍🎣

Locky caught well the last part on Paste also Danny done well plus I could here him talking to the geese all day wtf 🤣🤣🤣

Rob wasn’t doing great after a great start, before the scales turned up Kingy was moaning about him peg 🤣🤣🤣then he said Westy wasn’t weighing in 🤣🤣🤣 done you again Another one to Skill School 🤣🤣

Not sure if I may book in for this week as I was meant to be going away on hols but it’s looking like it’s going to be cancelled again. The joys of having your own Company relentless 🙃 so hopefully you’ll be reading a blog next week 🎣👍

Tight lines have a great week, oh & Kingy fail to prep - prepare to fail.. Oh I meant Westy 🤣🤣🤣

Woodlands 19.09.21

 Terry & Dicks Memorial

Woodlands 19.09.21

A good place to start would be what a gem Terry was I’ve known him for probably 30yrs starting from when I used to work nights at Wellworthys. Great guy so gentle & a Gentleman. I’ve only known Dick through my Match Fishing again a complete Gem always had a smile even when the chips were down 😁

So on to the draw I drew a great area for this Silvers Match peg 25. Lol when I got there & started to set up who should turn ha Westy haha oh my, buts there’s more on my other side was Kingy dam I’m in for some S@@t today 🤣🤣 so this match was full of excellent Silvers Anglers to say the least far to many to mention. I set up a cage feeder towards the middle of the lake, 12M was my GB line 9M to my left was a corn & paste line that has worked very well in the warmer months & a 9M right was a worm & caster line which was the best for me all day plenty of bites but unfortunately no stamp of quality skimmers. Westy was struggling all day & Kingys short line came good towards the end to give him 2nd. I could hear Big Westy & The Guru Tart yapping all day my gosh don’t they talk. I thought Guru was gonna kick my but on his peg but he didn’t & I thought Matrix Tony was going to pull it out of the bag. I could see a lot of the guys  hooking carp, I seen Sausage have a couple Kingy & Westy we’re flat out hooking carp & also George. The Coles lads were on form to go on & win. Terry & Dicks family turned up for a low key presentation it was great to see, Terry & Dick would of been so proud well they actually were as they looked down probably having a good time with a few ciders & some whiskey.

Well done to everyone that came it was a lovely gesture & a lovely day.

Hawthorne Sunday & it’s full I was late booking on & didn’t get a space, have a great match.

Sunday 12 September 2021

12.09.21 Summerhayes

 Summerhayes 12.09.21

My first match back after a while, so I was really looking forward to this one & I was gunned up for a good day & it was lovely to see all the guys I certainly have missed it & spending my day with a great bunch of competing guys all looking for a win. A quick catch up with Locky & Nick & let’s not forget Westy oh Westy you do try & beat me on this venue but you fail keep trying buddy you’ll get there in the end haha 😛. Kingy was taking the fees whilst having a bit of banter with Jordy.

On to the draw me & Nick S we’re last to draw as he was telling me about his 5th holiday this year 🤣 good man you lead a privalliged life 😁🎣

I drew 11 & he drew 23 not bad at all well so I thought, when I got there it was solid with fish down the left edge & across to the island 😁 I could see Westy on 13 unlucky for some & especially you 👍🎣. Also Kingy drew a proper flyer peg 5 😊. The all in was called so I fed my left edge with meet & hemp, 13 meters across was fed with a bit of micro & a 6m pellet. I had two straight away but the hook pulled on both. Bagger Newell was on peg 12 & he was straight into a good skimmer & Westy seemed to be on the ball catching . On 11 was the White Acres hero Bagger Allen he didn’t seem to be doing to much at this point but that didn’t last for long he was soon sacking to go on & win the match short on Paste 👍👍. I went down my edge it was solid but I couldn’t get a touch on meat then corn & Paste I went through the lot. Back to the island kattying 4m pellets still nothing I was struggling.

I then tried paste short I had a couple. I could see Gringe Chivers fishing 14.5 m to the island shallow & catching well til his number 8 snapped Wow.

I tried maggots over maggots down the edge that was the right change I started catching well & loosing fish two elastics pulled out of my kits later. I then went on paste down the edge & put a new top kit on Preston 18-20!! That kept them under control nicely The edge got better & better but it was to late to catch up shame really. Frustrating day tbf had to keep changing things to eventually catch, but nice to work it out in the end 😊. I seen my mate Westy packing up early haha 😂 he’d had enough loosing fish around the island & Bagger Knell was quite consistent. Sacker Allen was giving me neck ache his lackey was out all the time on carp. Well what happened to Kingy DNW he always says I shouldn’t of chucked back - but you did & I done the pair of you, luv it 😁🤣🤣🎣

Next week it’s Dick & Terry’s memorial match at Woodlands, please remember it’s Silvers only. That’s going to be interesting to say the least. George reckons he’s gonna pull everyone’s pants down - will see Fletch 😁👍🎣

Have a good week & see you Sunday, tight lines.

Sedges 15.08.21

This week John Wolstencroft blogged his day

15 AUG 21

HLS SEDGES - TILE

I was asked to write a blog on my day today to give Shawn a break from writing it every week.

I was really looking forward to this match as The Sedges venue has always been kind to me and is full of quality fish.  It’s a lake which is able to produce to any angler who fishes to their strengths.

On arrival at the car park at about 07.40 it was apparent that most fishing today were already there, all in good spirits and the banter in full flow.  George was finally able to update us all with a diagnosis on his wrist which has been giving him grief over the last few weeks.  Now he has found out what the issue is, all our lives, and his, can return to some degree of normality and hopefully he will mend soon.

At the draw, personally I wasn’t particularly fussed as to where I drew, but quietly hoped for the centre bank between Tile lake and Brick, as the breeze was blowing into that bank.  So on dipping into the draw bag, and pulling P38 I was well happy, even though I had never fished between pegs P40 and P34.  Trundling my gear to the peg, I had Tony Newell on P39 and Danny on P37.

As I started to set up, it was very apparent there were a lot of fish right up in the water, so decided to target those fish rather than trying to force them down on the deck. I had heard a few rumours during the week the complex had been fishing very hard, but put those thoughts out of my mind when I saw the amount of fish with their backs, heads and tails out of the water as they wallowed past.  I set up a 2 SSG 3.2g Guru pellet waggler and was able to cast it out comfortably most of the way to the island, right at the limit of my catty firing out 8mm pellets.  I have found the pellet waggler method can blow hot and cold this year on Tile, and was hoping for a `hot` day.  I also went for a more unorthodox tactic in mixing up some groundbait and clipping up a small Matrix Baggin Wag on my other pellet waggler rod, and trying that as I felt it unlikely the fish had seen this much before.

As the fish were up in the water, I set up a deep shallow rig to fish meat at top 2 plus 3 as able to flick out meat by hand at that range rather than use a catty.  Set up was completed by a pellet rig at top 2 plus 3 as well as a paste rig to go, over the top of it.  Finally a meat rig down the right hand margin.

Whistle went and I fed a small amount of pellet at 2 plus 3 at about 10 O`clock position.  40 minutes in and not bite or indication of any sort, despite trickling a few pellets regularly.  I could not see anything caught and was beginning to feel it was going to be a tough one.  Baggin wag came off the roost and boshed that out for the next 40 minutes or so, every couple of minutes with the groundbait moulded round it as loose as possible to help it cloud the water within 30 seconds of impact.  Expecting to see some interest by the carp to move in to investigate, it was obvious they were not interested, and carried on mincing around on the surfacedespite pinging in 3 or 48mm pellets every 30 seconds or so to make some noise.  Chucked the baggin wag back on the roost to try the pellet waggler, and still no interest, even with shallowing up to 8 inches deep.  So over 2 hours in and still no bites.  By now I was itching to try meat shallow in front of me, and in with 5 minutes of trying it hooked my first one, got it most of the way to the net before very sportingly I let it go again.  5 minutes later hooked another which almost reached the island before finally netting a nice double. One more followed after that.  I was still feeding the paste line quite heavily to force them down.  Another spell on the pellet waggler and had my only bite of the day on it resulting in another nice double.  I spent the last couple of hours alternating between the paste and meat shallow.  One more fell to meat shallow and only one fish on the paste, but did lose 4 foulers on the bounce after that.  I have always caught well down the margins here, but despite regular feeding failed to have a single bite.

In summary my paltry 5 carp went to 40lbs, but not through lack of trying.  They seemed just to not want to feed.   It seemed that most had the same problem.

I suppose I could have set up a feeder or lead clipped up tight to the island and sat on that all day.  Who knows it might have worked, but it would have just complicated things more.

Well done to Steve King for his 106lb and winning on the day.  I never really had the chance to chat to him, but suspect most were caught clipped up to the island.  Danny next to me had a nice net of silvers at about 20lbs which must have put him there or thereabouts in the silvers pool.

At least none of us got wet, despite the BBC weather saying we were likely to.  I did also have the pleasure of seeing the Somerset countryside in great detail during my 90 minute `drive` back up the M5 carpark to Portishead.  Nice

Another great days fishing with some Absolute Legends, a tight match tbf.. I fished paste all day nothing really worked apart from my right side margin it was solid after some calculated feeding lol 😂😉 I had loads of room & so did George who was a couple down. I did see I was giving a him

neck pain for the last 1.5hrs lol 😂 he kept looking at me & giving I don’t know with his hands 🙌 when Westy & Kingy weighed me in they both thought I’d done them. Westy said to Kingy I quote what Kingy told me pmsl 🤣 he’s not going to shut up now he’s done us 🤣🤣🤣 never mind next time boys.. No one is still coming forward for a blog of their day come on lads. Tbf it’ll be just the sheet next week if no one wants too ???

See you at Sedges, Kingy said there’s a couple gaps left, give Shane a ping to book you in  👍🎣

Woodlands 01.08.21

 Trinity Woodlands

This match had a twist to it.

Two weeks before me & Locky booked in to Kevin Hayes Memorial match a  Member of our club that sadly passed away, this was run by Simon Garbut he had 15 booked in, Locky drew 16 I drew 24. Locky went on to win overall, he fished the best tbf against the elements of a roasting day 👏👏.. I had 2nd on Silvers Locky done me by a 1lb on the Silvers so we agreed to put it right this week. On to our match I drew 25 I’d already had my match sorted in my head - all out carp slapping at 12m & a top kit plus 3 sections on paste special G, feeding Corn, also a edge rig on paste. Slapping just didn’t work I had one which I lost after about 55 minutes, my paste line was primed so time to give it ago, nothing really to shout about at first. I could see Locky he wasn’t really doing much either Kingy was on a couple slapping, I could see his eagle eyes looking around. Rich Cole’s was playing it cool like he does & Eric Jordy Shaw was quiet on the tip apart from his singing 😂 so on to my paste line it went good all of sudden like it just switched on I started to get bites but then it went all a bit mental just foul hooking to one ripping out all of my kit with the elastic, there big fish 🐠. After plumbing up a new rig which I didn’t have one to go to school boy error it wasn’t the same, I struggled after that I couldn’t get a bite for S@@t I was still getting foul hookers I stoped feeding but still kept foul hooking so frustrating I lost about about 9 Carp I could of just got off my box & screamed the fish were there I just couldn’t do anything apart from hook pulls I didn’t have the ability to get them in for what ever reason. I could hear Kingy deep sighing 😁 Jordy was having a good run so was Rich Cole’s & Locko. I went down the edge as I could see good signs of Carp coming up & swirling but god dam it, I was still loosing fish 🐠 I don’t know what I was doing wrong tbf I did manage to get a couple out but that was it, looking back what could I have changed nothing to be honest. Me & Locky spoke by messenger after the match we both lost a boat load of fish which cost us. I obviously done something right to get the fish there, just getting them in was the issue, well Locko done me by 10lb so he blew me out of the water 👏 on the up side I blew Kingy out of the water so all good 😊🤣🤣😂😂 looking forward to Summerhayes this week. I’ve got to say if anyone wants me to blog there match please do so as it’s gets a bit boring on what I do every week??  Bagger Knell smashed it again, he told me he fished paste, well done buddy 👏👏🎣🎣

See you next week please bare in mind if you want to blog your day write it up & I’ll put it up 👍🎣

Avalon 11.07.21

This week we’re at Avalon a lot of us love this venue, I was the first to arrive followed by Sir Graham & Fletch, Fletch was on form as I’m now a neighbour to him & he was telling me how he thought my German Shepard was handsome, thanks Buddy…

All the guys started to arrive & it wasn’t long before we drew. This week I had 19 a good Carp peg.

As the other pegs started to fill I had Kingy next to me & Nick Selway on the next, this is gonna be a interesting match as there already giving it the large one 🤣🤣🤣🤣

So on to my match this ain’t gonna take long 🤣 I set up a Pellet wag a short Paste rig & a margin to my right in the bay at the shallowest water I could find.

The all in was called & Kingy was straight in on the Pellet Wag & another & another I was still working mine with not much happening, I had carp there but I couldn’t chuck in the sedges where they were climbing the bank, I did have five two of them I lost it was tough going tbf, the Paste rig did nothing & neither did the edge rig after the second pour down I was done I’d had enough 🤨 Kingy was catching well & loosing hook lengths, he was giving me proper neck ache all day  🤣🤣 he went on to wipe the floor with everyone, Absolute Legend, Nicky Selway was on the Silvers struggling at times but did have a nice Bream. Looking down the right I could see Bagger Tony catching but struggling well that’s what he was saying, Kingy kept saying Westy & Bagger Allen’s elastic was out every time he looked down there. As I pushed my trolley back there was a lot of guys saying they’d struggled I didn’t hang around for the weigh in as it started to p@@s down again it was horrible.

Next week the guys are at Hawthorns at Shiplate & it’s full.

Please book in with Shane for Landsend 🎣👍

04.07.21 The Sedges

The Sedges

Sorry no blog this week as I didn’t fish. I did see the draw & it looked a very good line up with Steve Coles  in a corner peg, Matrix Tony had a lot of carp in front of him near the island & Graham in the far corner peg. I took the time to watch Graham prepare for battle, he set up like a pro I was impressed..

Jordy shaw took first place & Westy is back on form with second. Steve Coles  took third, I thought he may have taken first good Angler on a good peg.

For Silvers

 - Rich Cole’s was back on the winner’s sheet again followed by Sausage & Bagger Allen

Please can you book in with Shane for all future matches on 07824812895.. Please can you book in with him for Avalon by Tuesday evening as Vic will charge by the peg rather than the lake after that.

The 12.09.21 was a blank on the Match Planner as it was the away day, I’ve managed to book on to Summerhayes Sellicks, please make a note of that in your diary. See you Sunday tight lines & have a good week 👍🎣

Campbell 27.06.21

 Viaduct Campbell

This week were at the Mighty Viaduct a favourite for many in the club, when I arrived I pulled up next to the Guru Tart Kingy & Westy were full of compliments to him - don’t worry Guru you haven’t put much weight on & you really aren’t showing your age 🤣🤣👍. This week we had Rob Eagle guesting, he’s gonna be one of the favourites for the Silvers.

On to the draw I drew 127 happy with that defiantly. On arrival I saw the airiators on, I set up a tip rod a carp rig for 2x3 & a margin rig for left & right, also two Silvers rigs for the short left & short In front, bait wise for the silvers straight forward maggots Gb & expanders. The edge was gonna be corn simple as that, the all in was blew & out on the tip to see what the crack was I sat on this for thirty minutes with no signs, Rog was on my left on the tip as normal & he was straight in & so was Graham opposite. I’d fed my silvers line, I went on this & I was on them like a train so all Silvers it was going to be, the fist hour was really strong I thought I was heading for a big weight but tbf it was very patchy after that as I was carped out foul hooking. I was swapping lines but the left short line didn’t do anything. I heard a lot of commossion  coming from my right with John Wolvenscroft some how he knocked his cassette in & snapped his top kit he wasn’t a happy chappy for sure. The all out was called I stuck to my guns all day with the Silvers as there was no point going after the carp as I could see Jordy Shaw bagging but then getting disqualified after going over his net limit, also I knew Kingy would be bagging down on 135 man can he draw but he certainly doesn’t waste the peg either. I heard the other side had fished well for Silvers with a couple of 50’s & a 60 - nice. When Steve got around I put 31lb of Silvers on the scales nice day even tho the carp pestered me having to re-set up rigs that got smashed. Rich Cole’s was the man taking the day on the Silvers with a great weight 👏👏 Tbf there was alot of great weights aswell, Kingy was the man again 👏 with the top weight & i done Westy again ha 😁🤣👍 Nice

Next week we’re at Sedges, Friday evening is the AGM should be nice for a few beers 🍺 hopefully see you there tight lines.
