HLS Angling Dad's Army Sedges Tile Wednesday 25th April

Dad's Army visited Sedges Tile on a day noted for its heavy showers and cold wind.   I must say this only affected one bank, the other, pegs 21 to 30 sat in perfect comfort, no prizes for guessing what I drew

There should have been fifteen of us today, but our tragic hero Kev fell down the stairs after a nights skittles, he must take more water with it;  I hope he didn't damage the stairs!!  I spoke to Archie his dog on the phone, he said it was a right howl, or was it hoot.

Back to Sedges,  Jamie selected the pegs, Denise made drinks, and the business was completed.  Everyone wanted the low draw, but 50% had to suffer.   Big Bird drew the Golden Peg number 33, I had 37 with Boy George saying as usual  "I never get beaten by the next peg" to my right, and peg 38 empty.   Ninja, the carp expert was on 39, and halfway through I got a shout, he had broken his landing net, could I bring him mine!! to land another of his barbed minnows.

I was happily catching fish from the start, even if I was freezing my cobblers off, with George  doing okay fishing meat next to me.   Bend It, Sheriff and Rob, were all just up from me;  I knew a good weight would be necessary, so I kept my head down.

The day passed and I shouted all out.    I thought I was in with a chance, but George reckoned the Golden Peg would go, and the Sheriff would take our nuggets;  that Bolton Wanderer does talk a lot of CARP!!

I had the board and we started weighing on the holiday makers bank, where the two top overall weights came from, pegs 29 and 30.  Next to weigh was the Wizard followed by the silvers boys. Rob was leading with 25lbs 8ozs, but I saved the Golden Peg with 31lbs 12ozs and was top silvers.

Our thanks to Jamie, the venue was in top condition, with plenty of fish to be caught.

Next Wednesday its another great venue at Avalon.

                                Come and get it.

                                                 Happy Days

Trinity waters 22/4/18

The HLS crew were at the fantastic trinity waters today and with 17 booked in Tony decided to pay the top 3 in each carp and silvers so all to play for ..so after i paid my pools and a chat i with the boys  it was into the bucket of dream and i pulled out peg 17 ...i was a happy boy!!! And just do what my fishing shrink suggested ...”all you had to do is put all the bad weeks behind you and just get your  head down and get on with it” ...ha no such luck.... anyway i had Brian (hmrc baits) on 19 and Eric on 15 .. so i set up a3 rigs and a bomb and pellet (never used) 1 rig for silvers (never used) one rig for hard pellet and 1 shallow rig ...

I won’t bore you all but i had a great start catching 6 lumps in the first 2.5 hours and then got my elastic snapped under peg 16 and that’s when i packed up and went and sat with lord C (Octopussy baits) as i sat there  i could see that Paul (Paxo baits) on peg 30 and George( best silvers angler in the club) on peg 32 were getting  a silver fish a chuck ...

Overall winners were :

1st silvers George (Best silvers angler in the club)22-5

2nd silvers  lord c (Octopussy baits)19-9

3rd silvers Paul (Paxo baits)15-14

1st overall Eric 137-11

2nd overall Brian (hmrc baits)127-8

3rd overall  Simon 112-9

So some greats weights today for both silvers and carp ..this Sunday we are Sedges so please book in with Phil ..

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 18th April Trinity Woodlands

Dad's Army were fishing at Trinity today, and fifteen well turned out men were fighting fit?? ready for the assault on Woodlands,   We could pack away the thermals, for the first time in months we were warm, dry, and not covered in mud.   Thanks to Trinity the lake was in excellent condition, on top of which we had the lovely Misha with advice and hot drinks.

There was plenty of chat today, so with the money and pegs sorted it was time for the draw.   The Golden Peg number thirtytwo went to Big Bird, and the thought was that the corner pegs would do well, this proved to be correct.   Not So Simple on peg 15 won overall with 111 lbs, with Ninja second with 75 lbs 8 ozs,  In third place was the Wizard with 66 lbs 7 ozs

The silvers went to John on peg 22 with 20lbs 7ozs.   Rob was second with 15lbs, and myself third with 13lbs 5ozs.    There were not many quality silvers caught but there were lots of ninjas to be had, this making up a lot of the silver weights,

Kev was up to his tricks, packing up early;  this time he managed to drop his glasses into the lake. Boy George was complaining about his platform, saying it was rotting and he was worried about his safety.  He got lots of sympathy when he said "I'M NOT MOANING"!!!

It was a good day all round, finished off by myself extracting nuggets for the second week running from some reluctant donators; it was like pulling teeth.

       Thanks to everyone.

Next week it's Sedges Tile, and the weather is looking good.

                                          Get geared up

Sunday 15th April 2018 - Viaduct Cary Lake

The famous 'Scary Cary' was the venue for Sunday and with it being only 5 mile down the road I could get an extra 20 mins in bed. When I got up the rain had started to drizzle and forecast was for a damp day.

When I arrived, the Guru Tart was demonstrating the latest tackle from the orange company. We all agreed that this was probably his level of fishing.

All the other usual characters were in attendance and good to see that Steve King had still not taken delivery of the hangmans rope after his run of recent poor form. Kev Hayes arrived and decided it was the right time to re thread his top kit with strong elastic for the occasion.... You Muppet Kev!!!. Luckily Simon had a wire threader and helped the poor man.

My bait bag included mostly silvers baits but I also loaded up plenty of pellets should I get a good carp peg.
The golden peg was drawn; 81. A feast or famine peg in my opinion. That ended up being the prize for Lord C (Octopussy boxes). I pulled out peg 94 and my silvers game plan commenced. Peg 90 across from me had won the previous days silvers and so I was optimistic. Peg 90 today had Tony Newell who has been having a good run with the carp weights lately. Along from him was Tony Fry, another who would be targeting the carp. Along to my left was a Viaduct expert, Brian Chivers, then Simon and then the two casting kings of HLS, Roger and Kev.

On reaching my peg, I decided on an 11m line straight out, 8m down the right hand margin and a rig to suit the margins either side of me. I chose to feed some Tom Thick ground bait laced with caster and fish over it with soft pellet, worm and dead maggots.
It took 20 minutes before I managed to land my first fish. In that time Brian had landed 4 carp from close in on paste!! I was getting regular bites but also lots of false bites which caused foul hooks and bumping fish off. I then changed the shotting to give me primarily lift bites and I managed to land more fish. I was getting plenty of fish but not the quality to build a big weight. I was pestered by carp who smashed me up twice and disrupted the swim  but I enjoyed my day and ended with 18-4 for my efforts.

From my view of the world I could see that the two Tony's were catching steadily but it turned out that Tony Newell was getting the better fish and finished up with 74-7 for second overall. In the distance, on peg 81, I could see that Lord Octopussy was using his landing net a lot.  He was fishing into the corner with his bomb rod and then to the monk with the pole. He was on the golden peg and the call of money got him to weigh in 118-11 for first overall. He wishes to inform George that he'll be dining out nicely on the golden peg winnings.

As for the silvers, the best silvers angler (who George you say) Rob Eagles was on peg 85 and caught some quality fish to make the scales show up 45-12. The former best silvers angler in the club, George was on peg 100 and put a respectable 24-13 on the score sheet. It's good to see your framing again George.

Next week it's Woodlands lake at Trinity waters. If you want to fish club mates, get on the phone to the Tart. Tight Lines

Summerhayes fisheries 9/4/18

SUMMERHAYES
09/04/18

Well it was of to Summerhayes today and i was told that in the week that only 12 were booked into this match but on arrival  the guru tart  told me that it might be 15-or 16 ...anyway i was greeted with the guru tart showing me his new  guru sun glasses.. honestly if guru made pants then the tart would buy them !!! oh yes and he also informed me that he is selling his mint 3 months old rive guru seat box as they are bring out a new one !!unbelievable !! but if anyone would like to buy it i  think phil is selling it for £150 so please drop him a line on thebridgewatertart@hls.co.uk  .....

the guru tart telling me about his new specs

Anyway i paid my money and went for a walk with lord C and we both said that we would like pegs 15  or 2 for carp and pegs 10, 11, 33, 35  for silvers

i spoke to tony fry before the match as the club has opened up a new bank account this week as we now have £2300 in the golden peg pot and it's just to much to take fishing every week ..but you never know it might go today if you get the right angler on the right peg ?

So into the bucket of dreams and i pull out peg 28 and to be honest i thought i might catch a few but after the last 6 weeks fishing it could be a up hill battle ..so i set up 2 pole rigs,1 for the reeds over and 1 for the track and looking around Tony (peg 33)and Eric(peg 35) looked like they would fish the tip over in the gaps for the carp also Brian also had a good chance on peg 3 on the silvers front i could see that man Danny on peg 10 and also the best silvers angler in the club on peg 15 ...which is also the golden peg !!and boy did he have a swagger walking to his peg ...

I had Shane (younger looking bother)on  peg 26 and Paul (Paxo baits)on peg 30 so great company and a bit of piss taking ....

The guru tart was on end peg 2 again !! and lord C (octopussy baits) on peg 4

So how did my match go ?? well after a hour i was blanking and could see tony and Eric catching well on the tip so of my arse and set up a tip rod First cast i had a small carp !! and i picked up 12 carp over the next 2-3 hours ..the last 2 hours i didn't have a bite ...i only had 0-13 of silvers on the pole so that was a waste of time ..

after 6 hours (it felt 10) the all out called so i packed up fast and loaded up my car with my kit and started the scales with the guru tart on peg 2 he had 12-9 ..and Danny did say please reset the scales each time cos it might be a close match ..anyway onto lord C (octopussy baits) on peg 4  had 3-7 of silvers then john on peg 7 had 21-9 to go into the lead then it was onto that man Danny on peg 10 ..so we checked the scales and they were perfect !! and Danny put on 7-15 of silvers to go into the lead on the silvers...graham on peg11  had bigger carp and put 35-6 on the scales ...then terry on peg13 had 1-10....Then it was George (best silvers angler in the club) Drum roll please !!!  he pulled out his net of white bait and i said "tony get the cheque book ready" George looked  me and i looked at him i could tell from his eyes that he wasn't going to let the golden peg money slip from his hands like it did at emerald pools.. Then we all looked at the scales and it went 7-14 ..........................................................pin drop............................................................................
Then Danny started laughing like a hyena...............And to be honest it not funny watching a 93 year old man crying ..so please lads you have been warned !!

The best silvers angler in the club!! wiping the tears from his eyes ...again!!!
Then it was onto tony fry on hot peg 19 who had 14-6 and beating the guru tart again then the next to weigh in was Shane (better looking bother) on peg 26 who had 13-6 ..i had 29-9 on peg28..paul (Paxo baits) on peg 30 put 6-1 of silvers on the scales ..tony on peg 33 had a nice day with 43-11  next door to him on peg 35 Eric had 37-1 and last but not least was Brian Chivers on peg 38 who had 28-4 ...
So a hard day but dry and that's a rare thing ..also it was a close match and looking at the sheet 1 or 2ozs could of cost you £2300....
1st overall tony n 43-11 again
1st silvers Danny 7-15 again
2nd overall Eric 37-1
2nd silvers George on the golden peg (best silvers angler in the club) 7-14
A big well done to all that framed and looking at it this winter it is the same guys picking each week ...so they are doing something right unlike me!! ha!!!
This Sunday we are at viaduct fishery and i think we are on Cary lake so see you all there and i predict the top 2 will be Eric and tony maybe Rodger...and silvers Rob, Danny  maybe paul (paxo baits) so come back to see if i am right ???
and last but not least i have set up a email for the club..it is hlsangling2017@gmail.com  ...

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 11th April Viaducts Campbell

It was eight o'clock, and the rain had stopped!!! when I arrived at Viaducts to fish Campbell with Dad's Army.       There were thirteen P.F.Cs on parade today,  Matt was looking after us, so everything ran smoothly.

The pegs were selected, with the Golden Peg 118, which was drawn by the Wizard, who was not quite so reluctant to part with his money today.   The draw was completed and everyone made off to the lake, leaving me in peace to sort the money.

It was good to see brothers Tonto and Spod here today, thankfully there was some distance between their pegs.   I was happy to be left with peg 112 as I had done well on this before.   When I got to my peg I found it was already occupied by Daffers the Duck who was sitting on her nest of eggs.   Not wanting to disturb her, I resolved to go about my business quietly!! setting up on on the platform which juts out into the lake.  The method today was a single red maggot on a twenty hook; no ground bait, just feeding maggot, caster, and soft pellet by hand.    Two swims, one five-six sections straight out, and the other four sections to my right, soft pellet being my second option for hook bait, simple.

All in and a little bait to each swim.   At the first chuck, out came the elastic, and after a struggle a ten pound carp was in the net.   My day got busy with tench, roach, skimmers, and the scaley varmints   I got quite optimistic.   Daffers sat watching as my pole passed to and fro past her for the whole of the match, I was thinking, she must be very impressed.

"Not So Simple" was doing well across the lake, and Boy George had his tongue out!!  so I was very surprised when the Sheriff from the next peg on. packed up early saying he couldn't catch, this was very unusual for this very good angler.

Time goes quickly when one is enjoying oneself, and all to soon it was all out and Matt started the weigh in.   There were some very good catches today, The Wizard won overall and the Golden Peg with 91 lbs 14 ozs  and I got silvers with 40lbs 3ozs.

The weather was kind, and I had good intelligent company all day; thank you Daffers, and all you other blokes.   I look forward to next Wednesday and more of the same.  Trinity is the venue.

Come on get busy and make it ring.

                                               Bob

HLS Angling Dads Army Wednesday 4th April Emeralds

It was raining!!  So what's new?   Eleven of Dad's Army were preparing to do their duty at Emeralds Pool.  Alan gave me a choice of ponds, and after consulting with my two intellectual mates? Danny and George, we chose Ruby.

The lads did the pegging, while I sorted the money.  It was time for the draw, ten being the Golden Peg, which was drawn by the Wizard.   We gave a warm welcome to Buzz Richards, and I hope, after fishing with us today, he liked what he saw and will join us on a regular bases on Wednesdays.

Steve the maggot vendor joined us again drawing peg twelve  I was to his right, on a not much fancied peg number one, with Boy George on three, there being no peg two.   This was the first match  on Ruby since there was a  problem, so there were a few negative waves.

At ten o'clock all in, and it was still persisting.   My umbrella was up, and I started on the top two down the edges;  I like the comfort zone.   To my surprise I started catching small skimmers from the off, and looking around all the lad's were busy.

Boy George gave me a shout, saying he had caught, what is his mandatory 3lb perch, but this time it looked more authentic!  My good day stopped at about one o'clock, when all bites stopped; but this was not so for the others, I could see them catching well.

It was time for the out, and although the weather was not great, the fishing more than made up for it,  mostly silvers being caught. Steve came out on top with a mixed bag for 44lbs 14ozs.   George won the silvers with 37lbs 11ozs, he's a course specialist.

It was a good day all round, and our thanks to Alan for a great match venue.

Next Wednesday we have Viaducts Campbell, and with the temperature rising a little, let's hope the weights will get better.

                                               Get Hooked.

                                                             Bob

P.S.  Steve donated his winnings to the Golden Peg...Thanks mate.

AVALON 1/4/2018

AVALON 1/4/2018

Today we were at Avalon fisheries so a quick stop to mac D's in street and arriving there  it was great to see my mate Dave who was also fishing with us today. Dave has been fishing Avalon over the winter months and had some great bags of silvers and only last week he fished peg 11 and he had 50-60 lbs of slabs and skimmers !!! Then i told him how crap i have been fishing over the last 6 weeks and was thinking of jacking fishing in and i was hoping i would get some support from the HLS crew today. Then lord C turned up to tell us he has just got a new sponsor and they have just sent him some new gear to try out. I think the company is called OCTOPUSSY?? Never heard of them but good luck mate and i hope it helps...

Anyway we arrive at Avalon and the car park was filling up fast only to get out of my car and a fellow member said "Your on a crap run Steve" and i said " yea we all go on one now and then" only to get the best response "well if you want to sell your gear give me a shout !!!" then walks away ...thanks then !! i did smile ..

Looking at the lake it was a horrible grey colour and i said to Mike Bendle it would fish hard today and as we also had rain all day Saturday this wouldn't help ...so i paid my money to Shane and got all my kit onto the trolley

The weather today looked good with rain coming in at 4 so we should just get away with it ...The talk in the car park was that everyone wanted peg 5 and this would win easy and only a muppet would mess that that peg up ..so i was hoping i didn't draw it ...Then we had this new blue van turn up and i was thinking OMG a Preston innovations consultant was fishing with us today ..but which one  Des...Andy??....I was looking with anticipation only to see Shaun getting out of his van !!! so now we have 2 tarts in the club ...

At the draw i was at the back of the line and i could see people smiling as they has some great silvers pegs especially Rob and Dave (pegs 16-17) and then the guru tart got his hands on peg 5 ...so peg 5 wouldn't  win today then ....

Both Tony's got there hands on some great pegs (20 and 24)  and also Eric also had a chance as peg 23 might chuck up net full ..

The golden peg today was peg 26 and was drawn by inform Danny who is hard to beat so game on !!

I drew peg 28 and when i got to my peg i had Mike Bendle on 30 and Graham on peg 27 ..i set up 2 pole rigs today 1 for 13m and 1 for 7m and also a straight bomb to fish over towards the gap ..

peg 28 (looking at tony catching all day)

I also had a pound side bet again with the "best silver angler in the club " on peg 21 and lord C (octopussy baits) on peg 3 ..i'm not going to say much about my match as it was hard for all except pegs 20 and 24 but i did catch !! i had 2 carp for 8.6 and some silvers for 3.2 ..so things at looking up ...

After 6 hours it was looking like Tony on peg 20 had 100 lbs from peg 20 and i also the jungle drums said the guru tart had a load from peg 5  ...the scales started on peg 30 and mike had 9-13 of silvers and then Danny on peg 26 went into the silvers lead with 11-0 ..Tony Fry on peg 24 had a nice days fishing with 52-1 then Tony on peg 20 had 90-5 , Rob on peg 16 had 10-4 of silvers and then Paul (paxo baits) on peg 12 had 7-8,  Mike on peg 7 had 7-1 of silvers and 6-0 carp ...then onto the best peg at this complex peg 5 and with the guru tart on it i was thinking 100-150 lbs. But like i said only a muppet would mess the hottest peg at Avalon today ...anyway with 4 keepnets in the talk was on the bank was it could be 200lbs ? So the first net was put on and it went 1-14 of silvers and then the carp was loaded onto the scales man .....he looked worried ...anyway the guru tart loaded up the scales  and after 4 seconds it was called out that the guru tart had 157-0 wow i was thinking as i was looking from the car park only to be told that it was 15-7. Oh is that it? I looked at Mike and he just said one word !!! muppet !

Then onto my good mate lord C (octopussy baits)  and he put on 11-2 of silvers (so stopping Danny winning the golden peg by 0-2 ) and also had 18-3 of carp ....the last one to weigh in was lord c much younger brother Shane who had 1-11 of silvers and 30-5 of carp ...

so the winners are..

1st overall Tony peg 20 90-5lbs                             1st silvers lord C (octopussy                                                                                      baits) peg 3 11-2
2nd overall Tony Fry peg 24 52-1 lbs                     2nd silvers Danny peg 26                                                                                           (golden peg) 11-0
3rd overall Shane peg 1 32-0                                  3rd silvers  Rob peg 16 10-4

So a close silvers match today which was good to see ...and well done to Tony Newell who did well with a great net of carp ....well done to all the framers and a big well done to the guru tart who made me smile all the way home ...i love you Phil you tart ..
