27.09.2020 - Landsend

Todays trip was to Landsend Fishery. Set in a lovely area, peaceful and pleasant. That's all that cab be said about it really. Water levels are too shallow, they continue to batter the match lake with matches so the fish don't feed and if a club is paying decent money to fish then it needs to be managed properly so people can actually catch fish. there's a few good lakes so why not alternate the lakes, so if the match lake gets fished on a Saturday the use the speci-lake on a Sunday or even 1 of the other lakes. Don't get me wrong, fishing shouldn't be easy, but at this time of year it shouldn't be so difficult either. Barely a fish seen topping all day or swimming around it was really poor.

Draw was done on Friday and we had a special guest in Bob Pascoe (must have been his wife setting him up on Zoom as I can imagine Bob doing this)

20.09.2020 - Shiplate Main

This weeks match was at the very popular and immaculate Shiplate fishery one of the best we fish with big carp and plenty of silvers to be caught.  Recent results had shown some really great weights around peg 8 area with the normal pegs 1 and 15 not been producing.

20 members booked in this week which again is a good turn out and the committee are sorry that we can not accommodate every one every week.

On arrival at 7.55am the last time we visited, the place was packed and I had to go into the overflow carpark, I got there slightly earlier and managed to find a space on the main car park but it was filling up fast with most ponds being fished on.

When I left home earlier this morning the weather was nice, sun just coming out and a very slight breeze which was in the opposite contrast to Shiplate where the wind was blowing down the lake and was a bit chilly in my shorts, even Tony Newell was sporting a sweatshirt. No hanging around as we were instructed to go straight to the pegs but there was always a little banter whilst loading with George being the brunt of the banter today.

The draw was done via zoom again  this week were supported by Phil.

Onto the draw

1st - Rich Coles            - 55lb 0 oz oz
2nd - Steve Warren       - 38b - 10 oz
3rd - Danny Donnahay - 32lb - 14oz

Fishing was made difficult in presentation with the high winds and choppy waters and holding a pole even at 2+3 was difficult. It was fortunate that the wind did ease after a few hours that allowed for easier fishing. Catching on the tip wasn't the most productive in areas that normally would produce so fishing

Well done to Steve King on the Flyer, the area holds a massive head of fish but you still have to catch them and to John and Steve  who also framed.

Last time out Bob had a fantastic 51lb, however today he struggled and the honors yet again went to Rich Coles with 55lb and Steve Warren who was not looking forward to his draw managed a good second place with 38lb. Danny takes yet another pound from George whos not been having the favor of the draws but today he was next to his nemeses so the class is that's won.

Well done to all the framers, next week the match is at Landsend and as per normal please phone Steve to try and reserve a place. We will continue to wear face mask on the weigh in as a norm.

Final reminder - Todber monies need to be paid by next week - £10

Last week I wrote a bit about Carp anglers at Viaduct and the lack of brain cells that they have. This week, once again i rest my case. Those who know Summerhayes and the Longs lake that on the road side the platforms are low to the lake. The lake is approx 14.5m wide. When shipping back you can either break down or go across the road. As the platforms are low many anglers put low rollers or slide the pole across the road. Today was no different and the cars were very courteous as they are aware. What about the anglers, well, some moron decided to go for a walk, could have been a toilet break I don't know. On his return, he was on the phone ignoring what was around him walking down the road and stood on the end section of John Bradfords pole. I heard the crack and looked around, the idiot walked another few paces and I though was he going to stop. When he did stop, he looked around and noticed what he had achieved. I don't know if John swapped details and asked for him to pay but again I may be doing a dis service to many of these carp anglers but following the last 2 weeks they don't do their-selves and favors. If the person didn't offer anything then shame on him, but i expect John might not bother to return to this venue following this experience.

Pete walked arounfd after the start and informed me that many were struggling, I was no different as even though i had a couple of early silvers on the tip the carp weren't really at it. I had an empty mid  match but i did end up in the last hour with a few fish, although as I was waiting for the scales people were recording 70 - 80lb. I only had 50 at most so I save the weighers the bother although I did have a nice days fishing.

Results

Overall

1st - Eric Searle      - 85lb - 14 0z
2nd - Steve King    - 84lb - 06 oz
3rd - Steve Warren - 74lb - 07oz

Silvers

1st - Rich Coles         - 17lb - 10 oz
2nd - Martin Western - 14lb - 15 oz
3rd - Tony Newell      - 14lb - 10 oz

Well done to Eric who won overall and collected the golden peg. He also won his club match the day before. Steve King and Steve Warren continue there good run of form of late being in the frame.

In the silvers, Rich Coles on a great silvers peg did well as did Martin. Tony Newell in the un-fancied area near the motorway bridge played a patient game and even though I saw him lose a couple of decent bream which was probably the difference between 3rd and 1st had a good match.

Well done to the framers and to Danny, Martin and Steve King for weighing in.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Our next match is at Shiplate on the Main Lake. The rules are that after off loading your equipment it is a straight walk to your peg, there is no conversation or gatherings of any sort, ensure you get your bait prior to the match. Any angler not observing the rules will be asked to leave.

In addition to the above - as of this week, please can all anglers wear a face mask for the weighing in process. This will help all members in reducing the potential spread as the virus increases.

A reminder that monies for the "away day" need to be paid by next week.

06.09-2020 Viaduct - Campbell

Todays match was at the popular viaduct venue where we have recently had a couple of matches cancelled as the fishery has changed Cary Pond to pleasure and carp anglers.

Many anglers got there early but still found the car park filling quickly as the pleasure anglers had congregated early in order to get to the better pegs, however there were still plenty of places to park.

A short wait for the shop to open then with face mask on and only 1 person allowed in the shop at any one time It was time to get the bait; however some had to wait as Queenie decided that he was going to have a flirtatious 5 minutes until he was told to book a date night at which he swiftly left.

Getting to the pegs was now a bit of an obstacle course as the carpers cant sit next to their rods, they have to take up as much room as they can, put up a bivvy that a family of illegal immigrants could camp in for a fortnight and set up so much stuff its unreal. The stupid thing is that they them set their rods with bloody noisy bite alarms set so loud that they could hear them in Langport (I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT THEY ARE ALL DEAF) then wait for the alarm to go off - just a thought, maybe they have them so loud so they can show off to the other fisherman - look at me I have a fish, where as us match anglers are so much more finesse , well some of us.

The sight of anglers walking around the lake with beer cans in their hands and the smell of weed being smoked seems to be an ever regular occurrence with these type of anglers but I guess i shouldn't stereotype them all.

The draw was done on Friday on zoom with Phil, Nige and Steve in attendance.

Golden peg was 115

110 - Steve Warren
111 - Dave Tunstall
112 - Bob Pascoe
113 - George Fletcher
114 - Danny Donnahay
115 - John Wolstencroft
116 - Eric Searle
118 - Nige Coram
119 - Phil Beards
123 - Roger Coombs
124 - Tony Newell
125 - Steve King
126 - Dave Allen
128 - Tony Fry
129 - Brian Chivers
130 - Martin Western
131 - John Bradford
132 - Paul Bowyer
135- Nick Selway

Interesting draw again with Danny, Bob, Dave and George all in a row competing for those silvers, who was going to show their class? The day started off nice and bright not too much wind and the aerators chugging along giving a nice ripple. Then we had some heavy showers and the aerators turned off which seemed to change the fishing for some. I was next to Phil Beards today and before you make up your own mind before reading on, it was an experience, funny to watch but pleasurable. Someone had turned his volume to low and although he lost a few rigs and fish he kept calm. Once he beefed up his tackle he actually landed a few fish and he had some nice tench and perch down the side.

I had Tony Newell opposite me, and i know that if i'm opposite him i'l be watching him on the tip bringing these fish in on a regular basis, and today was no different. It was a pleasure to see Roger just sitting back taking his time and catching well, with many fish larger than him and I did wonder sometimes who's caught who.

My swim is a bit awkward as you are out in the pond with your margins behind you so feels strange. It would be nice to take that platform out and move it back to the bank. I started well with 3 carp in 30 mins for about 30lb, then the inevitable happened. My float tip snapped and I had to change my rig, and it never seems to be quite right there after and it took ages in getting another bite. What I was surprised at was that I could not get a bite on the short lines and the margin only gave me 1 carp.

Apart from the rain it was a much more pleasurable experience than last week, was it that I caught fish or was it the wift of pot making me calm and relaxed.
