HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 30th May Sedges Brick

Dad's Army were attacking  Sedges Brick today, and took some casualties with five DNW, but for some it was pretty good.   Tonto managing peg four, which was the Golden Peg, winning overall by just 2ozs (must be something wrong with the scales!!).

The day was looking good, the rain stopped leaving it  overcast with a little breeze.   Jamie sorted the pegs while I did the business.   It was a good turn out today, there were sixteen fishing and expectations were high.

At the draw the Wizard got peg ten, which is carp infested waters, and we all expected him to win.  What a letdown he had just one carp, and to add insult he caught the only tench of the day to win the
£10 voucher, which was generously donated by Somerset Angling, our local tackle shop.

I drew peg 18 next to Big Bird on 17, who was fishing the waggler to good effect, catching from the off.     I decided on six sections of pole, with meat, caster and maggot, no ground bait, and loose feeding regularly.   The match started well, I could see others catching, and I had fish in the net.

After three quarters of an hour my usual disaster; I am such a clumsy git, I tangled my rig beyond redemption.   Rob was giving me a mothesr father next door so I decided to fish in close to my left, hoping for the tench..   I was getting small fish, then some proper bream plus a carp, followed by a long empty spell.

The Sheriff packed up and went home, so maybe I'll get another nugget?  In the last few minutes I caught two flyers, and an eel, which helped the cause

It was weigh in time, many thanks to Tony Newell and Richard Mustard Coleman for their help. I enjoyed my day, but had to settle for third in the silver stakes, with 16lbs 12ozs.   Rob won with 26lbs  Baz second with 18lbs ,     The overall was Tonto with Tony N second.

Good mates, good craic, and good fishing.   Keep it coming.

Next Wednesday it's Trinity Woodlands not Shiplate as previously stated, Sorry  about the mistake.

                                  So get on the phone!!

Sunday 27th May 2018 - Landsend

Well today 17 of us turned up to do battle at Mike's Landsend fishery. First port of call for 8 of us was to sit down to one of Di"s freshly cooked breakfast (best in Somerset).

Onto the draw, peg 1 picked out by Di was the golden peg and Mr Coombs drew it. I told him it was safe for another week. Mr Chairman Fry left me peg 11 and he drew peg 18. The rain had left us and the sun was out, hot and sticky, so off we all went to our pegs to set up for the battle. Ahead Bolton George was saying about his peg and going home. I don't know why Maver put up with him, lol.

I blew the hooter and the match began. We had for the day on the match lake 12 guys; 6 on each side and 5 others on the Specimen lake. I was taking a lot of stick from Shane Western in peg 13 telling me that I was doing it wrong; happy days!

The match over both lakes fished well with Match lake, left side, 1st overall was Colin Lambert, 49-8 and 1st silvers was Simon Gardner 22-14. On the right hand side, 1st overall was Tony Newell 90-5 and 1st in silvers, the grey fox himself Mr Tony Fry and yes I had to pay him a nugget. Then onto the other lake and 1st over all was my good mate Stan the man with 76-8. 1st in silvers was the next 'Des Ship', Martin Western with 29-0.

As you can see from the sheet it was a close match. One more fish here and there and things might have been different for the result. Next week Postman Pat will be back after his weeks holiday; I hope he enjoyed his time away. I will see you all in 3 weeks time when I am back from my holiday in Vietnam. So tight lines, happy fishing and hope you don't miss me to much. The guru tart.

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 23rd May Emeralds

We were at Emerald Pools on a warm sunny morning,  ten of the lads arrived to tempt all those silvers into their nets.   Alan said that the carp had just stopped spawning and only want to swim around on the surface;  bad luck Tonto.

It was Ruby today, and Boy George, the course specialist, helped me with the pegging.   All the money was done, so we started a little early, and got what is already good value for money.   Also today we had a £10 voucher donated by Somerset Angling.  To win it one had to catch the biggest crucian in the match.   I can't name a winner as there were none caught, so the prize will go to the angler catching the biggest tench at Sedges next Wednesday.

Back to Wednesday, it was all in and busy from the off   I could see the Nasty Old Sheriff and Baz catching, with Boy George off to a flyer., all of them fishing on the other side of the lake.   I was drawn next to Mustard, and had nice plump roach, skimmers and hybrids entering my net.   It did not last.    The sun appeared over the trees and "it wasn't half hot mum"  My bites got fewer and fewer, and just like my last three matches,  I caught well for an hour and  half, then little else.

The match progressed until four o'clock when I shouted all out.   I packed up and Danny and I started the weigh in.   Tungsten was first to weigh putting 23lbs 8ozs os silvers on the scales. Baz was next saying what a good venue this is, weighing 23lbs 10ozs of silvers.   Then it was the Sheriff, denying more than 15lbs, but weighing 25lbs of silvers.   It was Tivi next with 13lbs 3ozs, and last on that side of the lake was hot favourite George with 25lbs 2ozs of of silvers and one carp to justify the betting market.  (I owe you a nugget George)!!

We were also rans on our side of the lake, but we all caught fish,  myself with 17lbs 3ozs of silvers and a carp.   It was a good match, with little separating the top four.

Our thanks to Somerset Angling and to Emeralds.

Next Wednesday its Sedges Brick, and the biggest old rubber lips tench.

                                            Until then,

                                                           Bob

Trinity waters 20/5/2018

Trinity waters woodlands
18 booked into this match at this fantastic venue and with the sun out it was going to be a perfect day well that's the was the plan. Me and Lord C got the lakes early and got a nice parking space and then George (best silvers angler in the club and he was today!!!) turned up and started taking the piss out of me (which I love) and he told me that he would win the silvers today from any peg .
Then Mike came over for a chat and showed us all his new top "very nice Mike" from Tip Top Tackle. Mike told us that they sell all the tackle you could ever need and they are located at Unit 2, Eastmead Lane ,Walton, Somerset..

I paid my money to Shane and then dipped my nets and Tony Fry (silver fox) asked if we could sort out the away day for next year (2019) which we did and is now booked (Todber manor)  and looking at the results it is fishing it nuts off … 113-10 of silvers were caught this weekend ..so that should keep half the club happy !!
The golden peg today was drawn by Colin and was peg 23.  I put my hand into the box of dreams and had peg 27 looking back at me, This is a good peg for silvers and the bonus is it's not a long walk so happy day and with the sun on my back most of the day I wouldn't have any problem seeing my float …
Looking around I could see Roger on peg 6 which would suit him then Shaun on peg 8 and still looking for his iPhone …Terry on 9 .Then it was the big 5 guns all in the row starting with Danny(Pinocchio baits) on peg 11 then Lord C on peg 12, Mike on peg 14, Rob on peg 17 and George (best silvers angler in the club and today he was) on peg 19 ..so at least I could see what was going on ..
On our side I had Shane next door on peg 26  and Tony f (silver fox) on peg 29 ..I could hear the Guru tart who was on peg 30 but saying that everyone in Bridgwater can hear him !! I have been told by one of my postie mates that the Guru tart's  next door neighbour told him that he looks forward to every Sunday as the tart goes fishing and he gets some peace and quite !!!
So how did my match go well I set up 4 pole rigs a tip rod and a pellet wag ..I started on the tip rod for about 10 minutes and that was it for the day (I hate the bomb rod) then the wag for 10 -15 mins and had enough of that so out on the pole and had a few silvers on the soft pellet rig and then the carp turned up and had a steady run of carp on the hard pellet rig. My wheels fell of in the last 1-2 hours as the carp just went and I only added 1 more carp in that time ...But it was a joy to watch all the bullshit coming from pegs 11-14 ….
At the all out I packed up and loaded all my gear back into my car ..Me, Danny(Pinocchio baits) and Lord C (octopussy baits) started the scales on peg 33 with Tony N who had a great day and plonked on 138-3 ..well done that man !!! next was D.T who had 6-10 of silvers and 29-6 for a total of 36-0 ..Then it was the Guru tart who went for the silvers today and put on 0-8 of silvers and also caught 27-0 of accidental carp...but he did say that when he gets his new £3500 pole he might get a few more !! Steve kedges best customer me thinks... then onto Tony F (silver fox) who had a total of 34-15  then me on peg 27 and I had 72-8 then 3 DNWS …..next George (best silvers angler in the club) had a busy day and had 1875 silver fish for 21-5 .. "I love him".. Rob and Mike didn't bother to weigh in and then  Lord C put on 14-9 of silvers, Danny(Pinocchio baits)   just beat Lord C and had 16-7 of silvers … Terry and Shaun  didn't bother and then Rodger on peg 6 had 44-3 ..and the last to weigh in was Brian (HMRC baits) had 39-10..
So a great day with plenty of banter and like I said it was a pleasure listening to all the lies coming from peg 11-14...……….
So the winners on the day :
1st overall Tony n peg 33   138-3
2nd overall s king peg 27    72-8
3rd overall Rodger peg 6    44-3
1st silvers George (best silvers angler in the club)  peg 19  21-5
2nd silvers Danny (Pinocchio baits) peg 11   16-7
3rd silvers Lord C (octopussy baits) peg 12   14-9
I am not fishing next Sunday as I am away so the Guru tart is doing the blog ….the club is at Landsend so if you want to fish and also want breakfast please speak to the Phil so that he can give Di some idea of numbers …..I hope you all have a great match and I am gutted that I am not there as I love the place ..good luck

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 16th May Summerhays Longs

Dad's Army were looking at Longs Lake Sumerhays on a overcast breezy morning.   It was blowing straight down the lake north to south.   Were the lads concerned!!  there were just nine of us and NO, they just loaded and cocked ready for the challenge.

It's a treat to come here, proper toilet facilities, good banks, and a recently planted hedge, cut low and growing nicely for two thirds the way around the lake.    The downside was Pete and his mandatory  nuff joke repeated, saying that the drinks were free, and the smell of bacon coking very tempting.

I took the coin and selected the pegs, so plenty of room and no moans.   It was time for the draw.   W.O.2 Parker drew first, and got the Golden Peg number eleven for the second week in a row.   Boy George drew 28, and the Nasty Old Sheriff 8 and muttering.   I got peg 13 and was well pleased, with Tonto on my left, he was the only other one I could see.

Today it was no ground bait just loose feed, and not to far out, as this swim shallows from halfway out.   I hoped to catch skimmers and roach on maggot and caster, avoiding them scaly varmints if possible.   All in and some feed, then sit and wait on the nine metre line.   I looked across at Tonto, he was doing his usual, sitting trying to look like Buddha.   He had baited with bread, and was doing a fine job keeping the ducks fed and entertained.

After half an hour Tonto got busy and started catching small carp.   I had a couple of skimmers in the net, so happy days.    I had some excitement with my only carp of the day, which eventually swam off with my elastic connector and rig;  it must have taken lessons from Danny, robbing the poor and keeping it.

The day progressed with no more varmits, but a pleasing catch of silvers;  I was feeling  quite confident, but only the scales would decide.

It was four o'clock and I reluctantly shouted the all out, quickly packed up, and Danny and I fetched the scales and board.

Danny was first to weigh admitting ten pounds of silvers! so we were not surprised when it was not far short of 19lbs plus some carp.   Well done Danny.   The Wizard had not been up to his usual tricks and did not bother.   Golden boy Bill was next with a creditable 36lbs.   Then came the moment of TRUTH!!.   I admitted maybe 15lbs, but the scales proved me wrong when they settled at one ounce short of 24lbs.    More muttering from the Sheriff, saying he had been watching me catch all day; perhaps he should pay more attention to his own float!!!

Tonto had twenty two small carp for 55lbs and was top overall; an active days fishing!   Next up was Boy George, who was saying some very unkind remarks about the carp family, but he weighed 15lbs plus of silvers, and 36lbs of carp for second overall.   Kev weighed 47lbs of carp, and Tungsten had 14lbs of silvers.

As can be seen by the results sheet it was a good match, with plenty of silvers and carp.   No MICKY MOUSE weights, and everyone in with a chance.   Thanks Pete you and the weather behaved for a change.

Next week its Emeralds, probably on Ruby, and on the 30th we visit Sedges Brick.

I've done my kit maintenance, so back to the sun lounger.

Make it ring, you know the number!!

Shiplate main lake 13/5/2018

Shiplate farm main lake 13/5/2018
Fantastic venue.....

The HLS crew only  had 14 booked into this match today as a few had other commitments but this is a nice number to have on this lake and pegging was easy but the only problem was the Guru tart was doing the pegging out and he has only got 10 fingers and thumbs ..but we got there in the end as a kind member offered the tart his hand ...anyway I got there nice and early today and Mike asked if I was going to get some  food from the new van that is now on site and after reading Tony rixon's blog  about how nice the food was I couldn't say no so I ordered a breakfast roll and it was just perfect ....

Moments later Lord C (octopussy baits) turned up and unloaded his new box onto his trolley. Me and Mike just looked at each other and said wow what a nice bit of kit.. Then he put on his new bright white Gore-Tex and I was thinking he looked like John Travolta in Saturday night fever  !!!! I smiled so he ripped it off and put his normal Gore-Tex gear back on. He told me and Mike that he is fed up with people taking the pi## out of him (me) and that he was going to sell it cheap to a mate who works for the NHS ?? wipe clean ? ..

We had George (best silvers angler in the club) back with us today and he was telling us all that he was going to get peg 15 and would win the match within 2 hours ..my god this boy has a big ego ..

I paid my pools money to Shane said hello to all members ...I then spoke to Steve and his good wife to get some info on how the lake was fishing and what area was winning and he told me pegs 2,3,4,5 have done well the last 3-4 days but peg 3 was the peg to have !!!!

Into the bucket  early today and I pulled out .....peg 1 ...I was happy as I have done well of this peg before. but I wanted to fish for silvers today and this is a out and out carp peg  I feel ...George (best silvers angler in the club) got his wish and got peg 15 !! Git ..and to make matters worse this was also the golden peg ...I honestly would cry if I had to hand over the golden peg money to him today ..anyway he told me that he would do very well today ....and ran all the way over to his peg getting there before I got to peg 1 not bad for a man of his age...

Looking at the sheet I could see that man John Travolta, sorry lord C (octopussy baits) had peg 13A and this is a great area for silvers and he would be going for them also D.T. was on peg 14B and he is no mug when it comes to fishing for silvers and again a great area .. Danny (Pinocchio baits) had peg 4 and the peg every one wanted had the Guru tart sat in it (peg 3) Shaun had peg 2  but it was full of crap falling from the trees ..I did feel for him as this is a great peg when the sun comes out...

Paul (paxo baits) had a quick chat on his way to his peg about how he was going to beat us all with his wag and maggot approach and that this  would beat all the pole guys ...and as were chatting we could see George (best silvers angler in the club) over on peg 15 getting all his top kit out and boy he was in the zone !! (shoe zone!!!)

Rigs today  were  a slapping rig, a rig to fish hard pellet at 13m and margin rig to fish to my right and a paste rig ...also a pellet feeder to fish to the island and lastly a pellet wag also to fish to the island .

At the all in I put a small amount of 4mm pellets on the 13m line and started slapping a like a mad man. Also I kept pinging 8mm pellets over towards to island after 30 min and a sore arm I put the slapping rig up the bank never to be used again...so out onto the 13m line with banded 6mm pellet and had 5 skimmers in a row?? This was not the plan ..I got off the box and set up a light rig with expander thinking that I might be sat on a boat load of skimmers, so out again on the expander rig and bang!! a carp ?? ...

A hour in and still pinging 8mm pellets over towards the island I had 1 carp and 11lbs of silvers in the nets. I could see carp munching over towards the island so I got the pellet feeder rig over there asap...and never really looked back and had a great day catching on the tip and also catching in the margin to my right on the paste ..at the all out I could see the Guru tart with 2 nets in so he had a great day also .

I packed up asap and went over to peg 15 to help lord C and Tony do the scales ..George (best silvers angler in the club) was the first to plonk on 18lbs of silvers and at this point he was winning the golden peg (joke George) and I had a tear in my eye...D.T. on peg 14B had 14-12 of silvers and a few carp for 34-1 Tony on peg 14 had 8-3 of silvers and 57-13 of carp for a total of 66lbs then it was that man John Travolta sorry Lord C (octopussy baits) who had a great net of silvers (29-7) and also 22-5 of carp and he only fished for the silvers for 2 hours just like George said he would !! Well done that man and also this stopped George (best silvers angler in the club) winning the golden peg ...again
Lord c ...all in 2 hours

Over to the near side of the lake and Tony Fry (silver fox) was on peg 7 and had 9-15 of silvers and 24-2 of carp for a total of 34-1 next door on peg 6 was Paul (paxo baits) who had a fantastic net of silvers on the wag and maggot and plonked  36-3 of good skimmers on the scales

Paul (paxo baits) 36-3 of prime silvers

Next was Shane on peg 5 who had 5-7 of silvers and one carp for 18lbs for a total  of 23-7  then onto Danny (Pinocchio baits) on peg 4 who said he had a few !! well he also had a great day with 26-9 of silvers and a long nose!!!!! then it was the guru tart on peg 3 ......drum roll please ......first net 1-11 of silvers then 47-9 of crap for a total of 49-4 all caught on skill !!!!  Shaun on peg 2 went home early as he was having a nightmare with scum in the water and then it was me ..well I had 11lbs of silvers and put a few carp into the mix for a total of 148-4 ..

So a great day for most and this fishery is just getting better and better.. I love the place !!

1st overall S King 148-4 peg 1
2nd overall Tony N 66-0 peg 14

1st silvers Paul (paxo baits) 36-3 peg 6
2nd silvers Lord c (octopussy baits) 29-7 peg 13A

Next week we are at Trinity waters so please book in with the Guru tart. Also I have just checked the silvers golden peg money and it is just short of £3000 so it is worth winning.. I thought it might have gone today (you must try harder George) !!!!

Thursday 10 May 2018

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 9th May Shiplate Hawthorns

Dad's Army were attacking Shiplate Hawthorns today, and a more relaxed force of twelve you couldn't imagine.   Boy George turned up looking much better than he should, after a long weekend trying to drink Bolton dry.    The Nasty Old Sheriff was walking like he needed a simmer frame after humping concrete blocks, but they all had far fetched ideas about their fishing abilities.

Carole, Steve and Reggie were looking after these ancient scamps,  giving them advice,  not all about fishing.   Steve selected the pegs, and Carol picked the Golden Peg number three, which went to W.O.2 Parker when the draw was made.   The fishery was in cracking condition, the weather good, so let's get busy.

I heard no complaints!!  and when I drew peg nine I was a very happy trooper.   Peg ten was empty, and Danny was to my left on eight.   The plan for today was, skimmers down the track, and crucians in the margins.   Feeding ground bait and particles for the bream, and caster, maggot and corn down the edge.

At the all in I started two thirds across with double maggot to twenty hook.  I like to get something in the net quickly, and then work on it.   Tonto was behind his swim unhooking a nice carp within minutes, and Danny was off to a flyer with the silvers.    Myself, I bumped one fish and pulled out of a carp, ending up a tree (this I did four or five times during the match).   I had two small skimmers after an hour's effort.    Time to change;  it was caster down the left hand edge, which I had fed steadily.   I was rewarded with some nice plump crucians, and  hearing Danny say he was having a bad one after an hour, it was looking good.

What I like about this fishery is, for instance, today I have caught crucians, skimmers, chub, roach, rudd, two eels, and even a Tommy Ruff.   How different from some of our venues, and I forgot to mention 44lbs of the scaleys I caught.

Sadly it was all out, and the moment of TRUTH had arrived, a word some of these lads are not used to.

Tungsten was first to weigh with 24lbs 15ozs,   welcome back Dave.  Silvers are spawning, and not fishing that well, so it could be tight.   Plenty of carp around, and Ninja top overall with 84lbs 14ozs, three of us were pushing 60lbs, but Bend It got second with 59lbs 12ozs.   I got the silvers with 14lbs 9ozs, but more important the nuggets.   Tivi was second with 9lbs 4ozs.

Well done to all of you on a very productive days fishing,  and a BIG thank you to Shiplate.

Two items to note on Wednesday we visit Summerhays, where we will be fishing LONGS LAKE NOT Sellicks.   The match booked for the 30th May, will be at SEDGES BRICK, so please make a MENTAL!!! note of both these arrangements.

Grubs up I shall have to go

                                     Don't forget to phone

                                                                 Bob

Summerhayes 8/5/2018

Summerhayes
8/5/18

14 HLS crew today and wow was it a hot one!! Pete put us on Sellicks lake today and I was looking forward to it ..there was a open on Longs and I had a chat to a few of the regulars and asked about the lake that we were fishing and most said that paste was the way to go .. I asked Mark who was fishing Longs what pegs would he wanted if he was on Sellicks and he said 12,13,14,15....and looking at the lake it looked like the wind was blowing into this end so fingers crossed I might draw in this area .

I paid my money to Shane and told the Guru Tart that Lord C wasn't there as he was picking up his new Gore-Tex suit , he is having a one off made ...I think it is in  white with octopussy on the back in red and a list of his sponsors ??? Lord C tells me that he wants it to match his new seatbox ...good luck in keeping that clean mate....also the Guru Tart informed me that he has put in a order for his new pole omg! His old one is only 1 month old !!  Bridgwater Anglings best customer me thinks!!!

All that money and the guru tart has to bike it to this venue ...omg!!!

Anyway the golden peg was drawn and it was peg 14!!! so into the bucket of dreams and I pulled out peg 16 ... and Brian (hmrc baits) got his big hands on peg 14 ...so I asked Mark what peg 16 was all about and he said it was ok but not a winner .....

I set up a rig to fish over to the fair bank, 1 for the track and a paste rig and a tip rod to fish to far bank to my left .

I had that inform man Tony next door on peg 15 and John on peg 18  looking around and I see Brian on peg 14 smiling like a cat who just got the cream ... Roger peg 13  and the silver fox (aka Tony Fry) on peg 12 moaning because he had more fish than water on peg 12 ......

Anyway my match went like this I had a few over on the pole .....2-3 on the paste rig a few on the tip rod ..and in the last hour didn't put a fish in the net and as I all know when that happens it make you feel sick ...as I had to watch the guys to my right catch until the end of the match

Brian (hmrc baits) on peg 14 fished a great match and caught all day fishing long and very tight to the bank and fishing a few inches deep ..so after 6 hours in the oven most on my side had packed up.

We started the scales on peg 23  with Terry putting on 5-8 of silvers and 8-0 of carp for a total of 13-8 to go into the lead .... joke !! Then there was 3 DNW'S then it was my turn and I had 54-8 to take the lead for only 1 minute when Tony on peg 15 put 57-10 (GIT) and I said to Tony that will be second today !! onto Brian (hmrc baits)  on the golden peg 14 and he had done well and put on 94-12 (well done that man) Roger on peg 13 had 27-7 of bread fish (sorry mate but most carp on this lake suffer from celiac disease) then the silver fox on peg 12 had 52-5 ..Danny (Pinocchio baits)on peg 10 had 9-9 of silvers and then Shane on peg 8 had 35-5  and lost a boat load according to Danny ...Graham on peg 6 had 15-13 ..DT on peg 4 had 6-7 of silvers and 17-14 of carp for 24-5  and Paul (PAXO BAITS) on peg 2 had a DNW ..

So Brian (hmrc baits) had won the match and  golden peg ..well done mate but the only trouble was we had to deduct 40% tax at source from the prize money + golden peg which was a bit of a nightmare, but rule are rules and we all must pay are tax (wink wink) ..that man Tony on peg 15 was second ...on the silvers front that man Danny (Pinocchio baits) won again !!! And we all could hear George (best silvers angler in the club ) crying all the way from Bolton and boy did Danny laugh...and DT was second in the silvers and it was nice to see DT back fishing again after his crash in the snow ..

1st overall Brian (hmrc baits)
2nd overall Tony

1st silvers Danny (Pinocchio baits)
2nd silvers D.T

Sunday we are at Shiplate farm  main lake, I am not sure how many are booked in so please speak to the Guru Tart

Looking at Dom Sullivan Caught Short blog it looks like half of the lake fished well and the other side fished rock hard ..so a good draw please !!! I will upload a photo of Lord C's new Gore-Tex if I get close to him but I will be on peg 9 and he will be on peg 15 !!! again ....have a great week ...

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 2nd May Avalon Fisheries

It was Wednesday again and Dad's Army were at Avalon.   It was raining steadily, but twelve of the men were flapping their arms and quacking nicely.    They all assured me they had knelt by their beds with hands together, so why was I surprised when, at nine o'clock, the rain stopped, the sun shone, and the wind changed direction for the better!!!

Ron was looking after us today, and we had pegs 1 to 23 of which I selected 12 to put in the hat.   Big Bird drew the Golden Peg number 5, with the Nasty Old Sheriff on the end peg 21.    I had peg 12 with Tivi on my left, and Mustard to the right;  good company so I was well pleased.

I shouted all in and things got underway.    I intended to fish corn, but not straight off, I started on maggot and caster.    The plan was to keep feeding corn and ground bait,  while catching on caster for the first hour then switching to corn.   The first hour produced about one pound of bits, plus one good skimmer.    Dave and Rich either side of me were both doing better, so it was time to switch to corn.

After a wait along came my first bream, and I was slowly building a good weight of mainly large skimmers.    My bites got less for the last hour, but I did manage a ten pound carp on my 20 hook and two pound bottom.   I knew that Tivi had done well, but I could only see the chaps either side of me.

Rod started the weigh at peg 21 where Danny had 25lbs of silvers.   Dave weighed 18lbs, and it was my turn next, had the corn worked I wondered.   My net came out, and I felt confident it could be another few nuggets in my pocket.    Onto the scales, and the needle just passes the 30lbs mark, happy days!   Boy George said there were no fish in his swim, and Rob said that's another peg he did not want to draw again.

The sun shone, the lad's were happy, it was another day having the craic and doing what  we like best,

See you next Wednesday at Shiplate Hawthorns.

Sedges Tile Lake 29/4/2018

Sedges Tile lake 29/4/18

Its Sunday it windy so it must be my weekly trip to Bridgwater.  This week  the hls crew had a lake booked  at the Sedges fishery and getting there I found out that we had tile lake and we also had a full house which is nice to see ..my plan today was to fish for silvers but I needed to draw the right area for them and speaking to Danny. He said that they had been showing at the top end of the lake (pegs 27-33) ..
Anyway I paid my money to Shane and that's when the guru tart started !! He told me that he has ordered his new guru box and that he is still looking for a buyer for his mint 6 month old guru box ??? what a tart !! he said that the first £100 in his hand gets it ....anyway I collected my nets and said hello to a few people ..
Tony Fry asked if I was still fishing like a knob (so supportive) and I just smiled then George (best silvers angler in the club) also asked the same ....so game on !!
Into the bucket of dream and I pulled out peg 39 ..which  is a great peg and always has a carp or 2 in it ...Danny had the peg every one wanted and he was on peg 40 and to my right I should have had Rob on peg 38 but he said he wasn't sitting in the wind all day so went on canal lake...
Danny said we had no chance today on the silvers but they move so I set a silver rig ..a pellet feeder to fish towards the island and carp rig to fish hard pellet.. looking around I could see Eric on peg 36 and he always good at this venue Stan on 35 and also Tony on peg 30 the only people I could see on the over side of the lake was Lord C (octopussy baits) on peg 24 and god did he look good.....
At the all in I put some micros and corn on my silvers line ...some 4 mm pellets on my carp line and went on the pellet feeder half expecting it to get a pull straight away ...and it just sat there  looking around I could see Eric and Lord C (octopussy baits) catching carp Danny on peg 40 was getting the odd  skimmers and losing the better ones and I was still waiting for a bite ?? here we go again!!
So I had a look on the silver line and had a skimmer within 5 minutes then 1 more within the next 10 minutes then a carp (lost it) then 3 more carp so a change to the carp rig and I caught steady until the end of the match .. looking around I could see Lord C (octopussy bait) catching well and also Eric getting a bite a chuck on that lead rod of his !!! ...

At the all out I packed up and put my kit in the car and me and Danny and Jamie started the scales on peg 21 (golden peg) and Kev put on 35-9 to go into the lead :-) and then Paul (paxo baits) had a great net of silvers and had 31-13 (all caught on the straight bomb with maggot and feeding maggot over the top)..then it was Tony who had 10-14 and lots of trees ..then onto that man Lord C (octopussy baits) who said to me that he had 60lbs if he was lucky?? Well he put on 107-6 ??? Next person to weigh in was Simon who had 67-4 ..Brian (HMRC BAITS) had 23-11 and then a peg which I would have liked (peg30) and Lord C brother Shane had 40-8 on the waffffftttteeeerrrssss....over onto our side and that man Tony on peg 31 had 69-15, next Graham had 12-10 of silvers. George (best silvers angler in the club ) had a dnw ?? Not sure that's right ?? And then onto the big guns !!! well the guru tart had 45-2 and next was Stan who hammered the guru tart ...again with 67-12, then the north of England's  best looking bloke Eric who had 86-12 on peg 36, then Alan on peg 37 had a 62-1 (18-1 of silvers) I had 123-2 of carp and Danny (Pinocchio baits) on peg 40 said he only had 14-15 lbs of silvers actually had 29-0 of silvers and 32-2 of carp for 61-2 ...

So the winners are :

1st overall S King 123-2
2nd overall Lord C (octopussy baits) 107-6
3rd overall Eric 86-4

1st silvers Paul (paxo baits) 31-13
2nd silvers Danny (Pinocchio baits) 29-0
3rd silvers Alan 18-1
........last in the silvers George (best silvers angler in the club ) DNW.........

So a welcome win at last and all the silvers were down our side of the lake Danny !!!
