HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 30th January Trinity Woodlands

My day started with a couple of phone calls around 6-30 am, by lad's snowed in, so it was with some trepidation I set out for Trinity, which was our venue today.   But you can't stop the lads of Dad's Army having their days fishing     Despite the weather and traffic problems, ten of these men reported for duty.   I'm pleased to say they had their reward, with a beautiful sunny day, plus some good fishing.

Misha was on the Lilly run, so we had to fend for ourselves.   I selected the pegs, and did the business.  It was then we got to the draw.   Peg 27 was the Golden Peg and Jeff got lucky, but knowing how good an angler he is, he may not have needed any luck.

I drew peg 11, which is first on the far side, with Bend It on 12.   I was looking straight across the lake at Jeff and the Nasty Old Sheriff.   All in and I decided with my draw to fish the pole at eleven metres, with a pinkie on  the hook, feeding lightly caster and maggot, but no ground bait.

From the off Jeff and Danny were catching silvers, and Bend It on the wag was doing OK.   After an hour I had some very small roach, a nice perch,  and a scaley which weighed 8lbs 11oz.

The sun was shining, I was warm and catching fish with my mates, where else would I rather be???

As  the day progressed I was thinking Jeff had done the business, but it might be close.  Only three  carp were caught, but this was more than made up for with five double figure nets of silvers   All the fish were in pristine condition, a credit to Trinity!

I won't prattle on about the results, only to say the sheet is below.

I shall be on holiday for a few weeks, so Jeff will take over the jobs I have been doing.  He has volunteered for this to be a permanent position , so the number to ring as of now is  07821542178

I hope Jeff, who joined HLS recently, will give us a fresh outlook with the same aims of friendly  competitive match fishing.

This will be my last blog, I hope I have not bored you too much with my blithering.   I will be an active member of the club, fishing Wednesdays,  giving out my share of abuse to all my mates.

So finally a lot of big thank- yous firstly to all you out there who have read my rantings!!  Then to all the guys who have turned up to fish, making my Wednesday fishing so enjoyable.   Finally thank you  to my wife Marilyn, who has done all the typing and corrections to my grammar, making it all legible.

Our next match is at Summerhayes Longs, so keep Jeff busy ringing 07821542178.

It's been great, good luck and good fishing.

HLS Summerhayes 27/1/19

sellick's lake 27/1/9

We had 18 booked into this match and Phil was running like he does ..loud! Shane collected the money and what a fine job he is doing .. looking from the car park I said to lord c I didn't want the left hand side of the lake as it was blowing like a Hooley … and it was a very cold wind ..so any peg from 12- 23 or peg 1  (right hand side)

left hand side
right hand side

So we all went into the hut for the draw and into the bucket of dreams out comes peg 6 !!! not good but I would have a go ..I had the cleanest angler in the UK aka willy Wonka on peg 5 and radioactive man Stan on peg 7 and they both set up tip rods and I set up 2 pole rigs and in the end I was forced to set up a tip rod but the wind was bad ..in fact willy Wonka on peg 5 had his trolley blown into the lake behind us and also last some gear at the same time ..me well I caught carp and some skimmers but when I snapped my pole again !! I was thinking this is getting bad and the last straw for me was when we had a gust and all my gear was gone from my side tray … and all my top kit went for a walk … and then Simon came running down and grabbed my 16m section as I was just about to go for a swim and I didn't even see it roll away ..so thanks mate ..

Simon snapped his number 6 section also so the hls gang were spending there hard earned cash on carbon fibre today as when I got home I also lost a cupping in kit ?? .

So a early bath for me and I was gutted to be honest as I had fish in front of me but the weather beat me today so I packed up after 2 hours and went and sat over the other side and it was like a different world but that's fishing .

So a big well done to the winners and to the lads who stuck it out .

HLS Trinity waters 20/1/19 woodlands

Well it was back to Bridgwater for this weekends battle and the venue in use was the fantastic Trinity waters which was been kind to me over the winter months so I was looking forward to it ...so the first thing was to meet my good mates in mac ds in Street and then onto Bridgwater  ..

We got there with a hour to spare so I walked around the lake with Martin and the first thing I noticed was there were fish topping all over the lake ... and I said to Martin that I wanted to draw peg 2 or any peg from 10-17, as I feel that the silvers hang around these pegs and peg 2... Well it is full of carp and I was sure who ever got there  mitts on this peg would win .... and no I didn’t get it !!!

Anyway Phil the Guru tart was getting his hair done today and it was so quite ..I bet his neighbor was gutted cos he is one loud boy ... anyway  we had to make up the peg sheets out of the stack of £50 notes from Danny’s van so thank you to Danny !!!

We did have 18 booked in but a few dropped out so ended up with 15.

Tom did the pegs for us today and he selected pegs 2 (flyer),6 (flyer),8,10,11( a real flyer),13,14 ,17 (the biggest flyer in Somerset),23 (nice peg),24,26,27,29,30,32.....

Not sure who picked the golden peg but it was peg 29 and that man Danny (Pinocchio baits) got his mitts on it again and I thought it could go as he is a class act on the silvers and is always hard to beat but when I asked who was next to him I was told it was “the best silvers angler in the club” aka George ..so a nice battle going on there  ..

The pegging went like this ... peg 2 Tony Fry (silver fox)..peg 6 Shawn (willy Wonka) ..peg 8 Brian (HMRC baits) ... peg 10 Tony N (Mario bait company) ... peg 11 Martin aka Lord c (octopussy) ...  peg 13 Paul (Paxo baits) peg 14 Pauls best mate.. Me!!!..peg 17 D.T .. peg 23 Shane aka martins dad .. peg 24 Nigel or was it Callum (maver ) ... peg 26 Eric ..peg 27 George (best silvers angler in the club) his word and not mine !!!... peg 29 Danny (Pinocchio baits) and the golden peg!!! Again!!!! ....  peg 30 Dave Allen (ipickupeverytime.co.uk).. peg 32 John (Shepton silver slayer) ...

So I made my way to peg 14 and I had a spring in my step from all the abuse I was getting from my so called mates ..deep down I was one happy boy as this is a dream draw after pegs 2 and 11..

So I unloaded my gear then set about the mind games with Paul next door and he just didn’t shut up !!..but I love it ... He is one of those people you just love and a true  gent …

Paul (Paxo baits ) looking for his ear plugs....

I set up 1 tip rod and 2 pole rigs and went about my business but it was hard as Paul (Paxo baits) just kept talking .... I also mixed up some ground bait and a few micros and on the side tray I had some maggots and expanders and was ready with 15 minutes to spare  and I could see all the big guns on the good silvers pegs ...so game on !!

At 10 the all in was called and I put in one  ball of ground bait with a few dead reds and went straight on it and had a bite with in a minute.. so a few fish to be had .... also I feed the carp line just in case I needed to catch the water pigs ..I could see Danny catching silvers well and Tony N on peg  10 get a odd carp ..so I got into the groove and just kept adding  hand size silvers ... I also had 3 carp by the end of the match.

At 3 o’clock I thought I had 10-12 lbs of silvers and then martin told me that he thought Danny had a good net of silvers so I was thinking that he might have won the golden peg but as they say the scales don’t lie ...so the boys started the scales on the best peg ... peg 2  and Tony Fry put on 2-10 of carp and 2-5 of silvers ........ouch....Then peg 6 with Shawn and he had a DNW.. Brian was next on peg 5-6 of carp and 2-7 of silvers then Tony N was next on peg 10 and he had 16-11 of carp and 1-11 of silvers for a total of 18-6 ... Lord c was next up and he had a nice net of silvers 10-11 then it was my new best mate on peg 13 aka Paul (Paxo baits) who had 7-6 of silvers and a sore throat (god that boy can talk)  I was next on peg 14 and had 16-14 of silvers and 3 carp for 28-3 for a total of 45-1  then onto peg 17 and D.T had 11-9 of silvers ... then Terry was next sorry I mean Shane on peg 23 and i thought he should have won from there now that he has a nice new seat box ..and what a nice seat box it is !! anyway he chucked back then Nigel on peg 24 had 8-5 of silvers and then it was Eric on peg 26 who chucked back also ... Then the 2 big guns but who would win ????? well George was first on the scales on peg 27 and he had 8-6  and then Danny on peg 29 and also the golden peg and he had 14-13 of silvers so it was Danny again winning the battle and George handing over another pound ... Dave was next up on peg 30 and he had 14-14 of carp and 4-1 of silvers for a total of 18-15 and then lastly it was john on peg 32 and he 7-15 of silvers

So I just beat Danny in the silvers and stopped him from winning the golden peg  and also won overall so happy days

 So the winner today :

 1st overall S King peg 14 45-1

2nd overall D Allen (ipickupeverytime.co.uk) peg 30 18-15

3rd overall Tony N (Mario baits) peg 10 18-6

1st silvers  Danny (Pinocchio baits) 14-13 peg 29

2nd silvers D.T 11-9 peg 17

3rd silvers Martin (octopussy baits) peg 11 10-11

This Sunday we are at Summerhayes and NOT Emeralds ...see you there

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 23rd January Avalon

Today was one of those days when only fools and anglers venture out.   The roads were stretches of black ice, and the temperature zero.   BUT for fourteen of Dad's Army it was no problem, with the expectation of catching fish matching the temperature   They had come to enjoy seeing their mates? suffer and endure, all in good fun!!!

Today we fished Avalon, and Ron was there to greet us with the hint of a smile on his face, puffing on his artificial fag.   Between us we selected the pegs, using the top of the lake both sides.   The Golden Peg was drawn by The Nasty Old Sheriff again number 19, and I thought he must have a chance.   I drew peg 30 with Boy George to my right, and Tungsten to my left.   Across the lake I could see our newly wed Jeff back from his honeymoon, looking very fit!!

We welcomed two guests today, potential members Titch and Richie.  Our Wednesday lot were unanimous they were both suitable, and would make good members of Dad's Army HLS.

We fished 10-0 till 3-30 today and it was time for the all in.   My intention was to fish the maggot feeder, changing to six mil pellet as a second option.   Three hours in and no fish.   I had the pole out at 11 metres, and my sum total for the day was one tiny roach.   I must admit I had smashed maggot on the feeder, but I never saw any movement on my tip?   Must visit Spec Savers!!

It  was a match of two sides on our bank, only Tungsten caught over a pound.  The far bank fished better with Titch on the end peg winning overall with an outstanding 38lbs 3ozs.   Second was Mustard with 11lbs 6ozs.    Mike Bend It won silvers with 9lbs 2ozs second being Sparky with 7lbs

Well done to everyone for passing their endurance trial today, and there were still plenty of craic and laughs.

I have had lots of people say how boring fishing must be, my reply would be "I see more in one match than they see driving their cars around and getting frustrated with millions of others"    Do they see the Kingfisher catching their lunch, and all the other wild life that abounds on these nature reserves we call fisheries.   Have they the time to notice the change of seasons, such as the coming out of winter into spring, and so on throughout the year.  I don't think so.

I have one more Wednesday before taking some leave away on holiday.   It's over to Danny.  I am sure you lads will support The Sheriff as you have me, which I appreciate.   This may mean no blog for a few weeks.   It's this time of year I like commenting on the antics of the wild life, such as the splashing of over sexed ducks and geese not to mention copulating dragonfly, sitting on my float.  The good thing is that when I return I will see the product of all this activity; ducklings, goslings, and whatever they call young dragonfly, plus all the other species.   Also the trees and hedges in bud.

Back to reality, next Wednesday we fish Trinity Woodlands.  I spoke to Misha this morning, and she said the planned improvements on the far bank of this lake will start a little later.

Don't be shy, make it ring

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 16th January Viaducts Cary

I arrived at Viaducts, it was all peaceful, the weather was fine and not so cold.    I thought great, but unfortunately this didn't last long.   We were lashed with rain and strong gusty winds, this lasted for about two hours!!

Today thirteen of Dad's Army were fishing on Cary Lake, so there was plenty of room.   Matt and Steve did the business, extracting the lad's cash.   The pegs were selected and it was time for the draw.   Peg 105 was the Golden Peg, which went to Tivi.   Danny gave me the last out of the bag, I was very pleased with 77, which is a good skimmers peg.   I thought perhaps the Nasty Old Sheriff was getting soft in his dotage!

We had two guys Shawn and Phil unloading thousands of pounds of gear all shining and bright, then a few others with the kit that even Oxfam would refuse to take.   Shawn was showing and explaining about the new line in feeders; it all looked very good to me, but it was way out of my league, but thanks for showing me, it was much appreciated.

On to the match.  When I got to my swim it was great, so instead of fishing the maggot feeder, it was going to be the pole just beside the tree that had fallen into the water.   Still fishing the maggot and feeding small amounts of ground bait and maggots via a medium tosspot.

All in and it was not long before I had a few small roach in the net.   I was thinking it was going to be a busy hard working day.   I had Shawn to my left, and as he netted a skimmer I was having bad thoughts.   Across the lake I could see George who had been stamping round like Long John Silver catching his usual whitebait.   Bend It swinging them in fishing the wag.

My day got better, with skimmers and a bonus tench getting me up to double figures;  then  a nightmare!!! A dreaded scaly took my maggot.   I was under my brolly and could hardly move, after ten minutes of letting my friend enjoy himself pulling my arm out,  I was trying to be gentle seeing I had just a 20 hook and 1lb 14oz bottom.    I decided I must get out from under my said brolly. which is not easy on a small platform, all the gear plus a demented scaley   I managed to achieve the impossible landing the fish which was just short of 12lbs, leaving me knackered.

Shawn caught a couple of good sized carp, so must have been in the shake up, and I fancied my chances with the silvers.    Matt was weighing us in, he did not have to strain a gut, as it had been a hard days winter fishing.

The Wizard managed 3 carp for 33lbs 10ozs which was good for overall win.   Shawn with 2 carp and some silvers got second with 25lbs 9ozs I managed to get the better of Bend It, winning silvers with 11lbs 9oz.  Mike was second with 10lbs 12ozs.   The full results are below.

We visit Avalon next Wednesday which is a great venue.   I require at least 10 on parade, and well turned out please.

HLS 13/1/19 SEDGES

After meeting Dave Allen and Lord C at mac ds in Street we made the 20 minute journey to Bridgwater and onto the Sedges fishery … we got there just after 8 and the first thing I could see as we pulled up into the car park  was the waves on the right hand side of the lake (peg31-40) and I was thinking that I wanted a nice peg on the left hand side (peg21-30) as it was flat calm …

I only said to lord C in the week that I wanted a change of scenery and that I wanted a peg in the 30s..but looking at the waves I was thinking please leave in the normal area that I draw (pegs in the low 20s).

We had 17 booked in and I said the guru tart please think about the pegging as he wanted to put in all the pegs in (20 on the lake) ..me well I would have left out pegs 22,31,33 so after talking to the guru tart for 5 minutes he said he would put in all the pegs .. and if there are 3 pegs not drawn in a line then tough!!!

The golden peg was drawn by the silver fox aka Tony fry and he pulled out peg 22 ..so a good chance it could go from there as it can be a good area for silvers but who would get it and would it be drawn ???you didn't think of that Phil!!!!

Anyway I paid my pools to Shane and collected 2 nets and then had a chat to a few of the lads and it was nice to see a good bit of banter and a lot of piss taking which was directed at me !!! again.... and it was at this point I said to Dave Allen that I wanted peg 30..then I had the basket of dream pushed into me and I pulled out peg 30 mmmm….. so game on !! Dave well he got 22 and I said to him that he would fall in shit and smell of roses and he just smiled and went of on his merry way , Lord C got the peg I wanted in the week (peg35) but I wasn't to sure today due to the weather..

I got to my peg and the first thing I set up was a pop up bread rig for the bomb and also I set up a pellet feeder rig just in case I had a red letter day … also 2 pole rigs today 1 silvers  and one to fish to my left in the margin again just in case a few carp turn up !!

my peg for the day … peg 30

After setting up my next job was to get into all round Mr nice guy Pauls (Paxo baits) head and after 10 minutes of me talking crap I think my mission was completed !! I then asked Paul (Paxo baits) what he thought the chances of us picking up would be and then he said I was going bald !! how rude … he said the he can remember the first time are paths crossed on the river Brue .. and I had long hair.... now I was losing it big time ..now he was f***ing me off ...so he was now winning the mind games ..I did laugh and I thought we would have a great battle today as Paul is no mug when it comes to silver fishing …

the 2 old farts ..Eric and Paul

I could see the silver fox over on peg 31 and I could keep a eye on Danny (Pinocchio baits)  on peg 32 ….

When Phil the guru tart blow the horn at 10 I put in a small amount of micros and red maggots on the pole line at 13 meter and then put in 10 cubes of meat on the margin line and then went out on the pop up bread line …and it sat there so for the first 45 minutes I search around the peg and I didn't have a liner or bite .. mmm it was going to be hard me thinks !!

So a look on the pole line and it just sat there and I said to Paul (Paxo baits) we have fished for a hour and I haven't had a bite ..and then the float moved and I had my first skimmer in the net an then bugger all for the next hour ???

So I got of my arse and mixed up some ground bait and put in a ball on the pole line and also made up a cage feeder rig as I was thinking that those skimmer might be in the middle of the lake ..

So another 30 minute passed and I still only had 1 skimmer and thinking I hope the ground baits works … looking around as you do when not catching I could see the guys in the mid 20 catching carp well and I could also see my mate Dave Allen pole going in and out and I was thinking he going to win the silvers match and the golden peg !!!

So onto the pole line and I missed a bite straight away, then I had 5 skimmers in a row and I thought I had it sorted ..only for it to go iffy …. what to do I was thinking ??? ..well I was brave and put in a another small ball and had a few more skimmers ….and then I had a right unit of a carp which I think?? well it did  messed up my peg but I did get it in but I only had 1 more skimmer after that ….. I did try the margin line but didn't have a bite !!  and that was it ..

They started the scales on peg 21 with Phil the guru tart and he had a load of new fishing gear  and 8-14 of carp and was winning at this point … Next up was that man Dave Allen on peg 22 (golden peg) and he had 10-3 of silvers and 16-5 of carp for 26-8.. Brian (HMRC baits) on peg 23 had 23-11 then Tony N on peg 24 had 1-5 of silvers and 38-9 of carp for a total 39-14 …Then it was onto one of the richest men in Somerset  Graham and he had a nice day and ended up with  55-13 … then onto peg 26 … oh it wasn't drawn … peg 27 was Shane and he had 2 carp I think for 12-6 ..Eric on peg 28 chucked back ..Paul on peg 29 "a real flyer of a peg"  had 4-4 and a new hair cut !! I was next and had a bold head !! and 1 carp for 14-1 and just beat Dave in the silvers on our side with 11-13 for a total of 25-14 ..

Over to the far side and Tony Fry aka silver fox had 4-9 of silvers and 4 carp I think for 23-4 for a total of 27-13.... Danny (Pinocchio baits) on peg 32 chucked back which is a rare sight and shows how hard it was on that side ..Simon on peg 33 had 6-0 of silvers and 8-7 of carp for a total of 14-7 ..Bill on peg 34,Lord C on peg 35 and Nigel on peg 36 all chucked back and all had wind burn !! then pegs 37 and 38  were not drawn !! George on peg 39 was next and had 2-8 of silvers ..and last was D.T on peg 40 who again chucked back..

So looking at it the far side (pegs 31-40) fished harder but like I said they had a strong wind all day which did make me smile !!!! and we had it flat calm so defo on  the right side..

1st overall Graham (one of the richest men in Somerset) peg25 55-13
2nd overall Tony N (Mario baits) peg24 39-14
3rd overall Tony Fry (silver fox)peg 31 27-13
1st silvers S king peg30 11-13 I have drawn 4 end pegs in a row !!
2nd silvers Dave Allen (ipickupeverytime.com)peg 22
3rd silvers Simon peg 33 6-0

So a big well done today to all who stuck it out and to all the framers ..Next week we are at Trinity waters so please book in with Phil the guru tart !!

Wednesday the boys are at  the Viaduct on the "not so Scary Cary" so please book in with Bob on 01278683243 …

see you next week

HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 9th January Trinity Woodlands

Another Wednesday, another cold but sunny winter's day.  We fished Trinity Woodlands today, and the lads knew it was going to be hard, but it was a case of "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going"

Eleven of us fished, Danny did the pegging, and I the business.   We lost a very good member, we realised the reason, it was, he does not fish the away day or the Christmas Fair match, which the extra 50 pence subsidises.   It had become a club rule, and applies to everyone.   So I say to Rob  "we have enjoyed your company,  respect your decision, and we will miss you"  Good luck for your future fishing.

We made the draw and Tungsten got the Golden Peg number 26, which is not a bad spot.   I got 30 which was between Boy George and The Nasty Old Sheriff, which meant a good kicking up the derriere!!!   Everyone was happy so it was time to take up our positions and prepare for the attack.

I decided to learn how to use the rod and reel again.   I fished a small maggot feeder with a single maggot on the hook.   I certainly did need educating as I missed four out of five bites, and did not catch any of the quality fish I was hoping for.   Another nugget lost!   I won't give up this method, because I firmly believe it will produce results, especially at this time of the year;  maybe this is wishful thinking.  I must have been casting into one of Tonto's black holes today.

Next to me Danny was catching small fish all though the match, and I spotted our Shakespearean Bummer Boy actually netting a carp.    He generally manages to lose them, and there is usually some strange reason, it's never his fault when they got away.  These are Fairy Tales I think.

I had one friend this morning, a Robin who helped himself  to the bait on my tray.

The match ended, and Danny and myself started the weigh in at peg 6, where The Wizard had thrown back his few silvers.   Phil was next; he had caught the only carp of the day, and had a total of 10lbs 4ozs which was good for second overall.   Bend It had caught on the waggler all day, he won silvers with a nice net of 15lbs 1ozs of small fish.   Tungsten weighed 8lbs 13ozs and Danny 9lbs 13ozs, these were good enough  for 1st and 2nd silvers by default.

It was a good day, much better than sitting by the fire watching television and vegetating.!!!

Next Wednesday we visit Viaducts on the "not so Scary Cary" at this time of the year.

Come on let's be having you.

Hands off cocks on with socks,  let's get some social fishing under our belts

                                                              See you there

                                                                           Bob.

HLS TRINITY WATERS 6/01/19

HLS 06/01/19 WOODLAND LAKE

So the first match of 2019 and we had the fantastic Trinity waters and I was looking forward to it ..We had 17 booked in so we put 9 on the far side and 8 on the car park side and I didn't mine what peg I had as long as it was double digit … but if I had to pick a peg I would have liked pegs 10-15 as I think you always get bite from these pegs and failing that a peg in the mid 20s ..

We had Shane doing what he does best and collecting the money (which now has changed as we now pay 50p each on top of the pools for the xmas match) and Danny doing the board and pegs etc..

So I had a chat to the lads as we waited for the draw and met Nigel who is a new member and what a nice guy he is !! he was telling us that his fishing kit is cleaner that willy Wonka's kit … ok that's a load of crap because willy's kit is like it has just left the shop ….. mint....and I mean mint …

The golden peg today was peg 12 and was drawn by Somerset's richest man Rodger ..
and also looking around I could see that Danny was back !!! and he has hurt his back and I was told he did this moving his gold bars from under his bed to a new hole he has dug in his garden ..and after 25 gold bars he said his back just popped out.. ouch I was thinking ..but it was good to see him back but we would be playing for second in the silvers again ..

And then the Guru tart started with his normal noise and asked if I wanted to fish for a £2 side bet .. so I said yes ok big mouth !!! he was telling us about his new £450 rods and that they were the dogs nuts and that they were going to make him a better angler .. mmmm ok Phil !!!

Away the guru tart got the draw under way and I went in early and I would like to say that I pulled out peg 14 … but no I had peg 6 looking back at me.. and the guru tart had peg 14 and I was thinking that I would be handing over the £2 side bet …gutted.... so I had to moan a few on the hook again .. now I would love this peg in the summer but at this time of the year it could be a challenge and I wanted to fish for silvers today but I was already against it on this peg so I set up a margin rig ,tip rod, a carp pole rig, and a silvers rig just in case I had a few in front of me...

my home for the day … peg 6

On the side tray I had micros,  pinkies and red maggots and some expanders ….. at the all in I put in some bait on 13m line (silvers) and a few pellets on the 6m carp line and put a micros and reds to my right in the margins and started on the 13 m line and had a good few hours getting a bite a chuck but they were small .. but I could see most of the lake from my peg and it looked like it was fishing hard so I just kept putting the odd small skimmer in the net ..then I had a carp on the silvers rig which give me the run around but I got it in so I just kept at it …. word on the bank was Phil the guru tart was bagging big time !!!  and I could see Danny (Pinocchio baits) and D.T on pegs 10 and 13 catching silvers well so I was thinking I was out of the money on the silvers … my match ended with a lump on the tip in the last 20 minutes …  I was thinking my 2 water pigs  might go 20lbs and my silver might go 6lbs  .. so a hard day but I had bites

We started the scales on the car park side with Brian (HMRC) on peg 33 and he had a DNW then it was Nigel on peg 32 who had 3-11 of silvers …Shane was next on peg 31 who had a DNW … Paul (Paxo baits) had a big perch and some small silvers on peg 29 and had 5-12 … then it was that man …. yes it was the best silvers angler in the club aka George .. who had 2--10 ….then it was onto willy Wonka on peg 26 who had the cleanest peg on the lake but also had a DNW ..and when we walked past his peg I sure I could smell a anti-bacteria spray ??? then it was onto Tony N who had 1 carp and some silvers for a total of 12-9 and was winning so far ..and last was Lord c who chucked back 5-6 lbs of silvers on peg 23 ..

Over to the far side and we started with the main man Eric on peg 15 who had 0-12 of silvers and 4 carp for 21-7 for a total of 22-3 … then it was the Guru tart on the best peg (14) and he had a shed load and put on 3-7 !!!  then D.T on peg 13 put on 9-5 of silvers … Roger on peg 12 went home … Danny (Pinocchio baits) on peg 10 had a nice net of silvers and plonked on 11-5 of silvers then John and Bill (peg 9 and 8) both chucked back ..then the next person was Tony fry on peg 7  who had 5-8 of silvers and then I was last on peg 6 and I had 7-1 of silvers and 20-10 of water pigs for a total of 27-11 ..
D.T with 9-5 ..

Danny with his winning net … AGAIN...11-5

so the winners today :

1st overall s king (I moaned a win again) peg 6 27-11 and £2 from the Guru tart...

HLS Angling Dad's Army Sedges Tile Wednesday 2nd January 2019

Eleven of Dad's Army started the New Year at Sedges Tile, and even without George there was plenty of  chat.   The weather was cold, with a wintry sun and a little wind, so it was not a bad start to 2019,. and we hope a good years fishing.

Denise looked after us today, so there were plenty of hot drinks.    The lads parted with their money quite willingly!!! so the business was quickly completed.   We had plenty of space today so there was no problem with the pegging.   The Golden Peg was twenty two, which was drawn by Mustard.

We were all in at 9-45.   I drew peg 36, sandwiched between Big Bird and the Nasty Old Sheriff.   I could also see Tungsten, Bend It, and Bill The Paste on the far bank, so I had plenty to watch as I fished.    First to start catching was the nugget grabbing Danny to my right, and as I struggled for a bite his pole was like a whores draws, up and down all the time, but it was mainly small fish.

Rob to my left started catching, fishing maggot on the waggler and was getting better quality fish.  Fishing further out seemed to be the answer, as I could see Mike, also on the waggler, using caster he said. Neither using ground bait, just catapulting loose feed. It's winter fishing

My day did not improve, I was hammered on both sides.  Happy New Year Bob???   There may have  been a lack of fish, but I really enjoyed the day in such good company.

It was all out, and I threatened Danny not to lift anything, as his wife Chris had threatened me if I let him.  I can't tell you how, but it could be  painful!!

We started with Mustard on peg 22, who had a respectable 18lbs 4ozs total.   Next it was Tungsten, who had struggled for 8lbs 8ozs.   Bend It on the wag 15lbs of silvers and a carp.   Tivi and Bill  were tested.   Across the lake The Wizard had worked his magic, he weighed 46lbs 14ozs for an overall win.  Sausage was next, he put 16lbs 6ozs of silvers on the scales for second in that category.   The Sheriff  had 10lbs of silvers and a carp for 21lbs 12ozs which was good enough for 2nd overall.  The next guy we wont mention, then Big Bird with a nice haul of 22lbs 4ozs of silvers for a win.

Not a bad start for the year, it's up to all of us to make it successful.  So get on with it!!

We have taken a few casualties in the last year, and lets hope they all make a good recovery.  This means we need some new recruits.    We started with Bill, Jeff and Rich at the beginning of the year, so let's give it some serious thought.    For the club to be successful we need good numbers at all matches.  If it's Wednesdays you wish to fish with Dad's Army, just phone me on 01278683243.
Our next match is Emeralds on Speci,   There are only 14 pegs, so let it ring.

                                            HAPPY NEW YEAR

                                                         Bob
