Blog 11.04.23

No blog this week unfortunately the blog finishes here for me after the best part of three years πŸ˜πŸŽ£ some blogs better than other lol πŸ€£

I feel I’d like to give this parting as there are a lot of anglers that have followed my bank side stories.

On Sunday evening I decided to give up my committee roles, I’d thought about it long  & hard over the last couple of weeks.

It’s come quite noticeable that there are a couple of strained associates which I’d rather not get involved in. On that note I’m Out.

I feel I have given my role a 110% and I have throughly enjoyed working with my mates Paul Lock / Locky & Ian Townsend / Yammy more recently I have enjoyed a close working relationship with Tony Fry as we have had to work close together along side Ian & Paul.

I have given the club alot of my time & efforts over the past three years, -

I’ve done the Match Calendar with an old mate Steve King for 2023

2024 Match Calendar has also been completed by myself & Paul

I have booked an away day for 2023 Plantation’s, I’d also made contact with Plantation for future matches.

I now can enjoy my fishing with the club as a angler with no commitments, woop woop tight lines πŸ™ŒπŸ˜πŸŽ£

I’d just like to say thank you for taking the time to read my blog

Trinity 26.03.23

 Trinity Woodlands

Today we’re at one of the club’s favorites, I’ve got to say I was looking πŸ‘€ forward to it, as always I was first to get there even tho the clocks went forward & I had a late night. It wasn’t long before the car park started to fill.

The forecast was set to be ok with the rain clearing & a breeze in the air - well the rain didn’t clear for a while & the breeze stepped up to a NE blow not ideal but I was still in the frame of mind we’d all catch,

I drew 25 all good with me as it’s a nice Silver’s area I set up two silver’s rigs a bomb & margin for the carp as a back up good job as my options we’re starting to run out as I couldn’t catch the Silvers no matter how hard I tried I’m not sure why as they were there on my short line for deffo a bit of head melt tbf to my left it was a empty peg & right was DT then Westy followed by Colesy. George was late to the party as he forgot to set his clocks πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£ but drew a king of a peg as pictured, he was doing well on the Carp down the edge & short in-front. Yammy was manking after his first put in for a Carp, I heard him say that’s a bad Oman but not for him on this occasion, he was crying I haven’t had a bite for hours for that to change he had all his fish down the edge.

Bagger Knewll said he forgot his expanders & the tip season was over he was quick off the mark with a carp & another as I could see opposite me. But his tip rod did come out of hibernation.

I chucked out the tip after i realized the Silvers weren’t playing ball with me, for a mahhooossiivveeee Carp that was the only bite I had on the tip, I kept going at the Silvers lines for at 1.30 I went to my left edge the wind now was at full strength I had primed the right but presentation wasn’t good so I abandoned that margin. So S@@t or bust on my left. They weren’t interested I kept swapping hook baits for a Carp & lost three to hook pulls.

Really frustrating day & if I was honest I didn’t get any form of buzz apart from a migraine. I’ll happily give that session a forget.

Sedges next week Brick not sure what I’m doing yet so maybe a blog maybe not definitely a sheet tho, see you next time tight lines.

Shiplate main 19.03.23

 Shiplate Main lake

This week we’re at the above with a good turn out, 16 keen guys the atmosphere was good everyone was in good spirit & eager to get on to the draw.

I opted for a short walk in case I had an emergency at home with the wife still recovering from her Op, I drew peg 2 I’ve had this one before a couple of times but can’t get my head around it - it’s a great complex but one I do struggle on for what ever reason I don’t know.  For company I had Gringe on 3 & Westy on 1, I chose to fish for everything that swims for bites.

I had a cold πŸ₯Ά wind in my face that went cross directions so the long pole over was out.

I set up a couple of rigs for in front at 12m & an edge rig plus a small bomb rod to go across & search πŸ‘€ for fish.

The all in at 10 I fed my pole line & chucked the bomb to the island for a Carp within 2 minutes that’s a bad Oman for me that quick it’s like a kiss of death & it was again proven.

Bites were hard to come by a patients game & the same for Westy he had a Carp within seconds on the tip a small cage feeder, he ended up fishing down the edge & catching Silvers.

Gringe was catching on the tip.

I really was scratching around on three lines at 2.20 I was ready to chuck the towel in I grasped at a different feeding pattern threw the bomb out again to let the line settle for another small Carp.

I went back on the pole line it was like flicking a switch they suddenly turned on to the switch in feeding it remained positive for the last 1.5hr to get some sort of respectable weight not enough to frame but if I’d changed a lot earlier well who knows.

Next week at Trinity to do it all again see you there πŸ˜πŸŽ£

Away Day booked for 10.09.23

 Hi Guys

A new date for you on the match planner, 10.09.23, I’ve spoken to James this morning & arranged our yearly Away Day Out for the Jubilee Lake on Plantations, I’d imagine this will please a lot of the members as it’s been asked for πŸ˜

I’d also like to add whilst we are on the subject of the Away Day - how are our savings ?

I’ve spoken to Tony Fry / Club Treasurer, he has concerns with the club funding this event & also the Xmas Match to a a standard we have been used to.

I’ve asked him if he can do a regular breakdown of the financial findings on a monthly basis, he agreed & thought this would be a good idea, rather than at the end of the year, this report will be published on the blog.

The committee agreed that this will give every member an insight of where we are especially at this time.

Avalon 12.03.23

I didn’t fish this match as my wife has just under gone a major operation, I am hoping to return as soon as I can.

I spoken to Yammy for his take on the match he said he drew drew 45 he ran to the peg but it didn’t quite go as he would of liked, he was set for carp on the bomb & pole but to no avail. Rob Dodd told him after the match that the carp haven’t been showing down that area for weeks.

Matrix Tony had an early bath for no bites to 14.30

Locky told me he done ok & framed for 2nd in Silver’s even though he lost some proper Bream not Skimmer’s he said πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸŽ£

Bagger done his thing again with 1st overall πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸŽ£

I’ve spoken to James from Plantations regarding the away day hopefully this will be available for the September I will update you as soon as I know

I spoke to Yammy this morning he has spaces left for Sunday at Shiplate

26.02.23 Woodlands

 Woodlands

First match back for me for a couple of weeks due to work & things so I was looking πŸ‘€forward to this week. A chat with Locko in the week about how it would go plus tactics.

Before I’d got there I had my plan in my head for Silvers I thought this was the way to go as I felt the the Carp were still balled up in the lake so to land on them could be a lottery, I was the first one there far to early lol πŸ˜‚

I am going to put this out there and have a moan - why are we fishing to 15.30 / 16.00 hrs the club rules state winter fishing times are 10.00 - 15.00hrs the times change when the clocks change then we go to 16.00 I mentioned it to Tony Fry & he didn’t know either but was in agreement that 15.00hrs is far sufficient on days like yesterday !!!

The car Park started to fill - 18 booked on for today as always this venue is a favorite with the guys, payouts today were also very good Top four on both πŸ˜ƒ

I hung it out on the draw I wanted the near bank but with the wind & temperature the far side was more inviting, I drew 13 Not a good peg in the winter, Locky was on 14 & Rob on 12 Simon Gardner on 11 & Bagger Allen on 15 what a line up.

The all in at 10, I fed my l2m line & then went out on the cage feeder, I was getting liners straight away & Locky saying the same I then hooked a Skimmer & that was it on that after probably an hour onto my pole lines.

I was getting bites but only small fish Bagger was hanging it out on corn & expanders for a better stamp & he was getting them, I haven’t got the patience & confidence what can I say that’s why he’s called Bagger lol πŸ˜‚

I then had some elastic come out for better Skimmer nothing much but better than I’d been having then a Perch I’m still scratching but it’s a bonus.

It was a hard day & I stuck to my guns it’s not the style fishing I like hard work for 5.14 for 3rd what could I have done differently sat on corn or expander I spose

Well done to all the framers πŸ‘πŸ»

This week we’re at Summerhayes plenty of spaces to book in

Avalon 19.02.23

Well yammy doing the blog again this week. So avalon was the venue for the days match and another dry day was on the cards altho it was chilly. Anyway so I drew yet again peg 29 can't get away from the lower end of the lake. Had tony newel to the right and Rob dodd to the left of me. At the all in I fed gbait whilst chucking bomb and bread to the island and an hour in I was still biteless, rob had 2 skimmers and Tony had carp no4 in the net. I've had 2 skimmers in 2 chucks then nowt so fed my margin and had a carp first put in. At 11.30 tony had 49lb on the clicker and he could have finished then as non of us would have caught him making it 3 wins on the trot. Really good on bomb and pellet he is. It was great to see Phil on his road to recovery. My tally came in at 5 carp and 6 skimmers for 27lb not brilliant but scraped 3rd. Really hard going today but a great day anyway. Well done to the framers. Trinity next week so drop me a message if your attending. Thanks everyone have a good week.

Sedges 12.02.23

Yammy here doing a short blog. Well after waiting all week to go fishing and really looking forward to seeing the lads my fishing with them was cut short rather quickly as I had only gone and miscounted by 1 person which would have meant an extra half a lake for 1 angler so unfortunately I had to fish on another lake by myself. On a positive I did beat myself but only just lol. Anyway well done to all the framers today on the other lake. Avalon next week and if I have missed anyone please text me as numbers have to be given to Vic by Tuesday. Seeya all next week and hopefully I can fish with you all next week πŸ˜†

Covey 05.02.23

 Covey Match Canal

So this week we stopped off at the above with a good turn out compared to the last time we were here.

This week we had 16 & quite rightly so as this is a good venue well kept & loads of fish - F1’s normal Silvers plus the odd Chubb & Barbel chucked in the mix.

Unfortunately this is are last one here until next winter πŸ₯Ά.

On to the draw I was one of the last to draw & I had peg 2 not a good peg tbf in the winter but ok in the summer I’d imagine.

For company I had Bagger Allen to my left same as last time but the right & Gringe Chivers to my right one up on the left was Si Gardner so I’m up against two quality guys.

Bagger done me last time here by a lb or so payback could be on the cards.

I luv this time of year pritty basic stuff so feeding is key.

I felt quite penned in today with no margin either so longish across for two swims & a short swim, my thoughts were let’s do one swim at a time & try & work it out a bit

I did notice yesterday how many guys we’re using the Des Ship F1 floats there were loads of them I was using a faithful Tom Hardy Shannti’s I’ve got a lot of confidence in these however I had a tray of Des Ship floats aswell Maggot & F1.

I think I’m going on a bit well that’s just to fill the gaps πŸ€£ so the all in was 10 & finish at 3, it was quite a confident start bagger was straight in to a F1 & then Si, I heard Westy shout up writings on the wall I didn’t feel right to let that happen after last time, so I got my head down & started to catch some F1’s my line started to get strong but there were no patterns.

I started to feed my short line as I had no margin but after looking a few times nothing I also did another long line but Zilch just the one line - shit you can’t keep going at the same hole in the winter especially when things are hard.

True to the words I wore my swim out after 1pm I couldn’t get a bite anywhere it started to get proper cold with the wind so I got fed up at half two & called it a day I couldn’t see anything happening apart from getting my kit back in the van quicker lol πŸ˜‚ plus I helped Danny with the weigh-in.

I knew I’d done ok so I was looking forward to putting my catch on the scales for 2nd Silvers Si had done me but the most important thing in my head was to do Bagger Allen. Talking of Baggers - Bagger Knewll does it again πŸ’ͺ well done to everyone it was an ok day with no crappy wet conditions.

As you at Avalon πŸŽ£

Sunday 15 January 2023

Sedges Tile 15.01.23

Yammy here for my first match back of the new year. Sedges, tile lake the venue for the day and I had tony the bomb and new member Robbie Dodd the other side of me. At the all in tony had a 10lb carp first chuck followed  by Rob Dodd a 2lb bream. I hadn't had a bite till 2.5 hours later and lost the carp at the net. I had skimmer all day and with the rain lashing you in the face it was bliss. But on a positive it was great to see everyone again and the weather can only get better surely?? Well done to all the framers and hopefully better weather next week. Summerhayes next week get ya names down. Seeya all next week. Tight lines.

Sunday 8 January 2023

Covey 08.01.23

 Covey

First one back for 23 the weather well it was savage Wind Wind with Rain & more Rain not an ideal mix but it was what it was πŸ₯ΆI have to say I had a nice Xmas Present that I could put to the test & that was a Preston Heated Jacket whilst the guys were freezing especially Nick S I was lovely & toasty I had it on full blast all day πŸ˜πŸ’ͺ awsome bit of winter πŸ₯Ά kit

On to the draw we only had ten today so it was every other nearly, at the top end it was a mill pond but it got worse as you come down. I drew 7 yea I was happy with that middle of the lake.

To the conditions one rig short left & right that was all I could do & a marginal rig to find a good depth.

To my right I had Dave bagger Allen & left I had Bagger Knewll I was going to get battered πŸ’ͺ🎣 I started quite well a few F1’s then the roach moved in I started to rotate on my lines it was slow but steady, I was getting bites & that’s good for anyone this time of the year. I started priming my margin shortly after the all in as thought there maybe fish there sooner rather than later - saying that I still didn’t go on it to the afternoon as I had feeding fish on my lines. Dave was getting stuck in to the F1’s quickly but not so much for Bagger Knewll he seem to be quiet πŸ˜ there really didn’t seem to be much happening anywhere what I could see but my vision was limited as I was on my far right swim due to the wind - horrendous gust.

I just got my head down &. caught what ever swam & fed in my swims. I eventually went on my sort of edge & had a small carp I think it was probably good for a couple more but I ran out of time.

I had 2nd on the day so it paid off, it was really hard conditions with presentation & feeding it was just hard all round.

Next week we’re at Sedges I think they’re maybe a space or 2 but I’m not sure you’ll have to check with Ian his number is on the AGM blog report if you haven’t got it.

Saturday 7 January 2023
