Wednesday 20th January 2016 - Shiplate Hawthorns

It was the coldest morning of the winter, the lake was frozen over, not a duck in sight.   15 of Dads Army arrived, and we immediately started smashing the ice and getting the pegs ready for the off, hard work but rewarding.   13 of us actually fished.   The sun shone, but expectations were not high fishwise.   I drew peg 8 next to the air-eator, which had been switched on prior to the whistle, so was ice free, unfortunately fish free as well!!   I did manage to coax out some small roach, skimmers, and chub for 3lbs 12oz, but my bad run continues.   This has not gone unnoticed, some of the comments about age concern, and spec savers were hurtful to my delicate feelings!!!!   So I fired out a lot of abuse and insults about their parentage and fishing ability, and felt much better reading out the results.

Danny won overall by just 1oz!!  from Dave Tunstall with 13lbs 13ozs.   Pete Cooke won the silvers with 10lbs plus, a good weight on the day; a day when Global Warming was history, and we were more likely to see Polar Bears and Penguins.   Well done the lads, you made another great day out of what appeared to be a disaster.

Sunday its Trinity,  I can take a few more,  followed by Landsend next Wednesday.

                                     Keep at it?!

PS: Blog Man is very impressed with Dad's Army..... Obviously, your wives are still kicking you out on such a cold morning!!!
