HLS Angling Dad's Army Wednesday 3rd July Smmerhayes Sellicks

This was the last muster for Dad's Army, and there were thirteen of Fish platoon on parade.  Summerhayes Sellicks was the venue for this rather sad occasion, but I must say it looked in very good nick.

Peter was about early, so I guess his sex life had taken a down turn.   He got the bacon frying and water boiling, we just wished his joke? of the week would be short!!  My coffee was on the table so it was time to sort the pegs and extract the lad's ackers ready for the draw.

Draw time, there was no Golden Peg today, all the money entered the pools.  Ninja drew one and moaned, everyone else seemed happy, especially me as the last peg out was 23, short walk and fish thought.   We were paying first three overall and silvers today, so there was plenty to go for.

The lads made their way to their pegs and started preparing their weapons.    Personally I intended to have a lazy day, setting up just one rig and nine metres of pole.    My bait today was caster, corn and maggot on a twenty hook.   Tivi next to me fished the paste, and Aqua Man Kev, well that was a mystery and any ones guess!

All in, it was a slow start except that was for the Nasty Old Sheriff, who's landing net I could see was very active; I thought another nugget to the man worth millions?    I could see moaning Ninja catching regularly, but there was a lot of naughty language when he was fighting his way through the undergrowth along the bank.  With rod and landing net in hand he attacked the water until up came the cable attached to the areator;  that was the biggest  today Eric!

The sun was out and it was very hot, I was having a reasonable day, and Tivi was catching some small scaleys.   All was well with the world

It was the last all out, and Danny and I started the weigh in.    We got to peg one and there was, putting it mildly, a difference of opinion as to where one person was fishing.    So it was The Bolton Ant Bear, versus The Consett Ninja.   Although there was an empty peg between them, George claimed Eric fished  in his swim   My comment was "If Tonto had been on his other side he would not have had a swim."   The outcome was, they are still good friends;  it was just a lovers tiff.   Ninja weighed 70lbs 1oz  and George 16lbs 8ozs of silvers, so both were winners in their categories, so what was all the fuss about?

The weights were all good, being a fair reflection on what a good match lake this is.   Nick was second overall with 59lbs 8ozs, and Mustard third, with 50lbs 2ozs.   I managed 11lbs 10ozs for second silvers, with Danny third with 10lbs 10ozs   Full results below.

This being my last blog, I would like to say a few thank yous.   Firstly I would like to mention all the fisheries we have fished at, and hope those concerned were as happy with Dad's Army as we were with them   We wish them success and prosperity in the future.    But most importantly, I thank all you guys who turned up regularly, giving me plenty of verbal, and a life of sheer HELL.  I've enjoyed every minute , and class you all as my friends;  I hope to share your company in the future

I must thank my wife Marilyn, for her support, and all the work she has put into HLS.  Fixture lists, blogs and all those telephone calls, just for starters.   Many thanks to Danny  THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Finally to all those people who have read my blogs.  I tried to make them amusing but not contentious;  all those names I have called my mates, I hope you miss them, as I will.

All that remains is to collect my demob suit, and retire gracefully, and wish you all good                                   health and good fishing.
