HLS Angling - Shiplate = 07.07.19

Today was the very popular and peaceful setting of Shiplate. A glorious sunny morning but the forecast I saw was overcast. The club were supposed to be on the Main lake and with overcast conditions and warmth being forecast I thought that we could be in for a good days silvers fishing. Then I found that we were fishing the 2 canal lakes not that I mind as I prefer these, but it was going to be sunny all day so fishing wasn't going to be easy.

A very good turn out today with 18 anglers booked in and a couple of guest. The master Mr Steve King couldn't attend today as his wife's thumb was forcefully on top of his head as he had a birthday party to go to. I thought he was a bit too old for party bags and cakes - more of a Shane thing really.

I made my self a nice cup of tea and paid my ways and headed to the draw.

It was decided that although we had 2 lakes we would jut fish this as 1 on the payouts with top 3 Carp and Top 3 Silvers.

Draw as follows

Hawthorne Lake

Peg

1 - Graham
3 - Mutant George
5 - John W
7 - Steve
9 - Dave Allen
10 - Tony Fry
12 - Mario Tony
13 - Sausage

West Pool

2 - Mark d
4 - Nige
6 - Rich Coles
7 - John B
9 - Mark F
10 - Sharp Shopper Shane
12 - Lord C
13- Tungsten
15 - Eric

This was the first time that I have fished this lake so was not sure what to expect. It was a rather long walk n the sunny warm conditions but not as far as Eric on peg 15 who set out at 9.00 and got t his peg at 10.15 - well that was his excuse for not framing today.

The reports from many was that the first 3 hours most anglers didn't catch and very few got any bites with the exception of Tony Fry who had 1 a cast. Most fish were caught in the last couple of hours either on paste short or in the margins except George who caught some reeds then tried to break his line but as the rig flew back it shattered his nos 4 section. This was going to cost the richest man in the club a few bob.

Although Tony Fry was catching they were only smallish fish where as Dave Allen caught larger stamp in the last 2 hours to nick the overall weight.

Overall

Dave Allen - 103lb - 13oz
Tony Fry - 90lb - 11 oz
John Wolstencroft - 90lb - 01 oz

Silvers

Martin - 16lb - 15 oz
Tony Newel - 16lb - 08 oz
Rich Coles - 14lb - 15 oz

Well done to everyone who attended today - lets keep up the good work n attendance. Next up Sedges on the Canal Lake.
