Dad's Army were trooping the colours at Summerhays Longs today. There were fifteen of us on parade, including our guest Steve Kedge of Somerset Angling. Peter managed to get his butt out of bed to unlock the shack, and provide us with hot drinks and bacon butties.
It was raining, and as the day progressed it got very windy, which made presenting the bait very difficult, and very uncomfortable all round.
I selected the pegs, and ten was the Golden one, which was drawn by John B. I drew thirty four, sandwiched between Big Bird and our guest, so no pressure!! Everyone departed to the lake while I was still sorting the money. I talked to a couple of regular anglers, who assured me I had the best silvers peg on the lake; I certainly proved them wrong!
I shouted all in, and was getting a few small roach and skimmers, this quickly came to an end. Steve and Big Bird were getting the occasional carp, but Rob said it was Boy George next to him who was bagging, fishing the inside on what was virtually an end peg. To rub it in, he shouted down holding up a perch he claimed to be three pounds, that lad was some dreamer.
Most fished soft pellet maggot or caster as hook baits, and considering the wind problem, the weight's were not so bad. Ninja won overall on peg twenty five, fishing to the next platform and catching carp, closely followed by the Wizard for second. The silvers went to the Nasty Old Sheriff, beating John B on the Golden Peg, we can't keep the old dog down.
Thanks to Pete for looking after us at his pristine fishery.
Next Wednesday we visit Emeralds, the lake to be decided. It will be April, so let's hope for better
conditions.
I'm looking forward to leaving the long johns off, and getting my tan back on.
Ding Dong it's the phone please!!!
Bob
