Covid 19 Update

In accordance with the directive from our Prime Minister, all fisheries waters are now closed until such a time that these restrictions are relaxed. We owe it to the NHS and vulnerable anglers who may be affected by coronavirus infection by close contact with others.

 

We will update all members when it is safe to continue with our matches and updates will be posted on the blog.

 

Please abide by the Governments instructions and stay home and stay safe and we will see you all later in the year, together we can beat this.

Avalon Fishery 23.03.2020

So who knew that this was going to be the last match in a while. I guess the writing was on the wall and to control such a deadly virus and following the shut down from other countries that the decision to suspend group activities was the correct decision.

The club has a number of senior members and those who are not as fit as others so their decision to abstain from todays match was probably the correct decision.

14 members attended todays match on what was the best day of the year so far, the draw was done done differently with Steve drawing out the pegs for the members.

Lands End - 15.03.2020

Todays trip was at Landsend Fishery where after some anglers crying off late, we were down to 17 but this was stilll a good turn out. The weather on the other hand was as miserable as George. Steve set up his brolley in the middle of the car park (which looked more like an area that sells ice cream) so he could collect the fees whilst other remained huddled in the old barn trying to keep dry.

We were informed that we could split the lakes today because the match lake hadnt been fished on and thought that catching would be difficult if we were on 1 lake. The pegging was bizzare with 5 on the specimen lake and 12 on the match lake, and even split would have been better in my mind.

After rounding the troops up the golden peg was drawn which was 25

Todays trip was to the Sedges on Tile Lake. A slightly breezy day was expected with sunny spells and maybe the odd light shower. A good number of Anglers booked into tday with 19 enthusiast gracing their presecnce.

Summerhayes - 01.03.2020

Todays gathering was at Summerhayes on Longs. Rain showers on Saturday and very early morning heavy rain didnt dampen the spirits of those who were booked in. A good number today with 20 keen anglers ready for the off. The forcast was not too bad with suny spells and the odd shower, but we were blessed wth sunshine during the draw, set up and mostly through the match.

After getting my cuppa from Pete and collecting my nets I went and had a chat with the lads. George was still moaning about his draw last week even though he framed and there was plenty of banter towards him.

The last time we fished this lake - Danny lost his teeth. Sporting a new set of nashers he was reminded not to speak, sneeze or do anything that required him to open his mouth.

For me today on peg 36 this can be a good carp prducing peg so i was quite happy with the draw. Tony Fry and Shane were my favourites for framing on the tip as these 2 pegs produce well at this time of year. I had Danny to my right and George to my left who had got some advice - much like last week,  from Bill the Paste.

I managed to set up early and go around and get a few mug shots as shown below.

A few early fish were caught by Danny and George but just small silvers and It wasnt until noon that I had my first bite and landed a small carp. This was follwoed fairly quicly by another but after this it just died. Danny was experiencing the same issues and barely had a bte after lunch. George was landing a few carp but I couldnt really see much else going on. Queenie was packing up by 3.00pm as was dettal who reportidly thrw back 5lb of silvers. Generally, fishing was proving very difficult today with the pegs on the far side framing the overall weights and the roadside was producing the winning pegs for silvers.

I felt for Sausage, Dave and Brian on 17, 19 and 20 as these pegs can produce bags of silvers on their day; however, these are closest to the motorway and in a very shletered cold area

Viaduct - Cambell - 23.02.2020

Todays trip was to the popular venue of Viaduct where the fishing can produce some big wieights with some large angry carp and a good head of silvers can be caught.

The forcast on Saturday indicasted that the winds would be ok and dropping and when I arrived there was a ripple across the water that lead me to think that fishing could be ok if you get the right swim. I unloaded my gear and picked up my casters that I had pre-ordered and had a chat with the guys.

Everyone arrived on time and we even managed to get a slightly earlier draw hich have a bit more time to set up.  At this point the wind had seemed to increase a litte and the ripples had increased slightly.

George was seeking advice from resident angler Rob Eagles and then kept moaning (unlike George) about his peg even before he fished it, I felt for Sausage having to put up with that all day.

With the wind blowing from 123 - 131 across the lake this was a disatourous draw as I had the wind in my face and the ripple had turned into the Bristol Channel. On my way to my peg the 110 - 115 section was sheltered but after this it wasnt nice. The other side of the lake seemed to have calm waters with winds off of their backs Stan was in the corner next to me and he set up o simple days fishing on the tip. I however, still thought I could use the pole. During set up the wind got worse and then there was fine misty rain and without my brolly today I knew I should have satyed at home.

On the all in Stan foul hooked and lost a fish but it wasnt long before he was into a decent bream and Steve King fish the opposite corner at 14.5m down the edge landed a couple of carp. Not much going on from the people I could see throughout the match with the exception of Stan and Steve King.

For me - nothing to report apart from 3 small roach, a perch and a tench. Nothing on the tip. Looking at the results the top end of the lake produced the goods  and for thoses at the bottom end ended up with wind burnt faces and a successful day not losing or breaking any equipment.

Executive Committee Meeting

An Executive cCommittee meeting was held on Thursday 20th February.

Items discussed as per below.

1. Membership

There were 10 persons requesting to become new members of the club. There are currently 31 members making the potential of 41 members. It was discussed what the impact that this would have on current members and the venues that were currenty being fished. Most venues that we fish could manage between 18-20 pegs and the currently in the winter we are fulfilling about 18 members. The summer months often see an increase in numbers and it would be very difficult to incorporate all members and therfore it was decided to keep the membership numbers as current with a view that we will revisit this later in the year.

    2.  Finances

The annual finace report has been submitted following the 2020 AGM

    3.  Match Day Secretary

It was discussed that ALL persons who want to fish a match will contat the Match Day Secreatary - Steve Warren directly and not through other members.

All 2020 fixtures have now been confirmed and members will be informed of any changes. 2021 Fixtures have also been completed with the exception of the away day.
