Avalon 25.04.21

This week we were at Avalon great all round venue tbf favoured by most of the club. I arrived at 7.30 to see a big orange digger down in peg 24, they’ve been doing maintenance on the bank & removing trees & building the path, it’s looks awesome but how was that peg going to produce today as it’s known as one of the best pegs on the lake.

After having a chat with the guys & plenty of banter flying around it was on to the draw, I drew 24 haha ðŸ˜‚ the digger thing.. Well let’s see. Setting up, easy carp out & out, I set up a tip rod for bomb & pellet & two margin rigs, corn over Gb & the other just corn can’t get much simpler than that. The all in was called & I went straight out on the tip to the reed bank on my right, the line didn’t even have time to sink as the rod was bending to a carp, this is a bad Oman to me a fish this quick, I chucked out again & another carp now I’m thinking this could be a good day, I then had another but lost it to a hook pull. I kept on this line until around 12.30. Time for the margins to a carp down my left by the tree. That was it on that line, however, I was swapping margins all afternoon. I saw some signs on my long margin at 3.30 I fed it & went straight on it for a carp in 10 minutes - to little to late really. Kingy was proper struggling all day haha ðŸ˜‚ðŸĪĢ happens to the best of us, he did hook a couple of lumps & one done him going through the tree. I could here the Guru Tart proper going for it the air was blue he lost eight carp all down the edge. Grandpops Bob came up for a chat saying he couldn’t catch a decent stamp of silvers but I did see his landing net come out a few times. Danny looked to be struggling like all of us, the lake did fish hard today for everyone apart from John Wolvenscroft he won the lake & the golden peg, nice pick up & good angling as always.

Not much else to say I couldn’t see anyone apart from those I mentioned & it was a tuff going day.

Just the last thing to finish on - done Westy again luv it ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸŽĢ

Next week we’re on Shiplate Kingy’s favourite so I’d amagine he’ll pull that match back until then tight lines & have a great week ðŸ˜ðŸŽĢ

Trinity Lakes - Woodlands 18.04.21

 Trinity Lakes - Woodlands

This week it was one of my favoured Venues but on the flip side how was it going to go ? I had spoken to George Saturday when I saw him in Somerset Angling he said he’d been down there on the Wednesday with Eric & Bagger Knewll & they struggled tbf, hmm. I also spoke to Kingy Saturday evening & it gives me great pleasure to hear him say you’ve mashed my head haha ðŸĪĢ..

So on to the draw I drew 31 ah defo not the area I would have picked. For company I had Rich Cole’s to my left & Rodgy to my right & Locky on 29. I set up two silver rigs to fish maggots over GB & another to expander over micro at 12m left & right plus a pellet feeder on the tip. The all in was called before I done anything on the silvers lines I went straight out on a shallow rig just to see if I could catch shallow & sure enough I had one straight away, could the writing be on the wall I went back out & another, definitely carp it is unfortunately I lost that one. Silvers rigs binned off. I Carried on with this method all day hooking nine carp & only landing three arrgghh so frustrating. I did chuck the tip out with eight minute intervals between casting just to get some bait out there this was around 35m the tip didn’t move. I also done a margin rig same rig either side but only fished towards the tree which can be quite productive but not today not a bite. We had two new starters John Davies & Darren Vowells, we all welcome you & look forward to competing. I could see Darren catching well shallow long, short & the pellet wag, tidy, he went on to win the match - well done good start. Straight in front of me was Grandpops Pasco he was doing well on the silvers & giving Eric neck ache. The Guru was on the tip & he stayed on it all day to give me my side bet ðŸ˜, what I could see on the far side was no one was catching apart from Darren. Tony Fry seemed to be struggling aswell so it was a open playing field by lunch time. Locky went off like a train catching Silvers & kept it going most of the day to win the Silvers, class. Rich Cole’s started catching Silvers but he swaped to the dark side as it wasn’t really happening for him. Shane Western alias Onslo came bank walking talking of nothing happening around the twenty’s so everyone was still in it, well so we thought until the table turned & they started catching especially Kingy & Gringe catching Shallow fair play they done second & third. Hard day for most with a few dnw. Always nice to beat my my mate Martin Western Westy haha ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ & winning my side bets ðŸ‘Œ

Next week we are at Avalon another Sunday to look forward too until then then tight lines, see you there ðŸ˜ðŸŽĢ

Viaduct Campbell 11/04/21

 Viaduct Campbell

This was our fist visit this year Awsome Venue to say the least one of my favourites I’ve got to say always a pleasure to see Steve Long he’s a great friendly guy.

After parking up & loading my trolley its great to see the guys & having a giggle, nice to see Brian Chivers - Gringe this week & Graham their first match back. On to the draw - I drew 29 & it was also the Golden peg I thought great I could be on a few as it’s a favoured peg, not for me this week tho. To my right was John Wolstencroft to my left the other side of the spit was Bagger Tony Knewll now he’s quality a very good all rounder. Two pegs down was Kingy & Martin W so at least we’re in for a good days banter I was probably going to go home with a sore neck. I started straight out in front on the tip as there was plenty of carp showing, bit of a mind bender for me do I stick it out on the tip or do I fish for bites after a hard winters night thirty minutes in & nothing to show apart from one liner John however, was straight into a carp on the tip, I sort of thought this ain’t gonna happen for me on the tip & I could see Kingy & Martin straight on the silvers, silvers it is then I went out 12.5 meters with a nugget of Gb & maggots, I left that line to settle for twenty minutes then went on it for a few Ronnies, starting to katy maggots to try & draw fish in with no success I kept banging on this line for a few hours with nothing swapping different hookers. I did do a seven metre line the same but that was the same nothing. Gosh my head was mashed seeing the other guys catching silvers. John was on a pellet wag now think he had one & a couple more on the tip plus foul hooking a few. So let’s prime my margin to the right & start a new line to the left a few feet off the spit that was good for two skimmers & a 12lb carp game over for me. John did say he would have fished that line all day fair play but I’m not sure I would have done any better tbf. I could see Tony catching well, I could also see Nick Selway & Eric they weren’t catching either & plenty of banter was had  ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢðŸŽĢ. Mike Bendall called by for a quick chat & so did Ross Baker lovely to see those guys as I’ve not seen them for ages. It was a nice day that really did melt my brain but that’s how it goes on these days that’s why we do it ðŸĪŠðŸŽĢ the lake did fish very hard for most. Great stuff for the guys that caught. Next week we’re at Trinity Woodlands let’s hope for a warm week & few shallow I know I’ll be up against Kingy fishing shallow if conditions allow ðŸ˜ðŸŽĢ

Monday, 5 April 2021

First Match back - The Sedges Canal & we basically had a full club turnout, everyone was looking forward to this one with members having plenty of practice. I know of three anyway The Guru Tart, Turtle George & Locky ðŸ˜..

I got to the Sedges at 7.45 to see a nearly full car park up at the Canal, after some chat with guys I’ve not seen for months it was the draw I drew 56 which I know nothing about same as the venue really as I’ve never been on this lake but I got to say it looked Awsome like the whole venue.

When I got to my peg I could see Nick Selway giving it the large one, take a bow Nicky, Locky was two pegs up Dave Allen to my right the very same as my last match, the Xmas Match & Danny to my left wow I’m up against it ðŸĪŠ

So I thought I’d do a simple approach 12.5 across to the end of the reeds by the cove, 7 metres down the track & a margin pretty uncomplicated stuff with maggots over GB across then let’s see what happens from there for down the track, the margin I thought just maggots feeding a few all day keeping food going through the layers. The all in I fed maggots & started kattying them as well. 30 minutes in & Danny had some bits thats all, then I had my first carp after introducing a bit of GB excellent I thought then I had another & it shot off doing my hook length, ok I thought I’ll fish like this down the track after 30 minutes I had a cruisian & a skimmer this was tough going everything just stopped but Nick Selway started catching a few & didn’t we have to hear about it ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ long story short Locky wasn’t catching neither was Dave Allen & Danny was on a few silvers I had another carp across  & lost two they done my hook lengths. Nothing down the edge.

It was great to be back out seeing all the lads & were all looking forward to doing it again Sunday at Viaduct.

Well done to all the winners, Have a good week lads tight lines ðŸ‘ðŸŽĢ
