Wednesday 17th May 2017 - Sedges Brick Lake

Today we were fishing Sedges Brick, on which, weather wise was an abysmal day with continuous rain and a brisk wind.    Jaime and Denise were attending today, so hot drinks and Jamie selecting the pegs to be fished.

I collected the loot.   The Golden Peg is mounting to a worthwhile pot.   I paid Jamie and the draw was made.    Tungsten got the Golden Peg number 14, and myself peg 11, which is renowned for its scaley residents.

It was time, so I shouted all in, and we got on with it.  I had no great ambitions today, and would fish top two in the margins on my right, no groundbait just loose feed to try to avoid the unmentionables, with caster the hook bait.   A few bits came, and then a real good looker a 4lbs tench, just this fish made my visit a happy one; but there were more to come; some bream and good roach, and to cap it all a perfect crucian around 2lbs.

As I looked round the lake, all I could see were dreary looking wet lads all sticking to their task.    Well done the lot of you!!  

  At the all out we had to weigh ourselves, and the weights showed all our efforts were worth the punishment.   Merlin wove his magic, winning overall with 96lbs 9ozs .   Bend It was second at 53lbs 6ozs, Baz had a very commendable 39lbs 8 ozs to win silvers, with the Nasty Old Sheriff runner up with 32lbs.

Our thanks to Jamie for providing a good venue, to which we will be returning soon.

       Our next matches are Avalon on Sunday, and Emeralds next Wednesday.

Sunday 14th May 2017 - Shiplate Main Lake

We fished on Shiplate Main Lake today, and nineteen members of Hook Line and Sinker arrived to contest our match.   Steve and Carole were taking care of everything, they selected the pegs to be fished, and the Golden Peg numbers 3A and 11.

I collected the money, paid the fees and sorted the pools.    Next it was the draw, Simon drew 11 and I got 3A, which meant a shorter walk, BUT I got the Nasty Old Sheriff to my left, and that good angler Martin Western to my right.

The Horny Hedgehog tooted and we got underway.   As happens on this lake, one side are in shirtsleeves and the other with hoodies up.    From the start I was catching small fish, and thinking maybe a good result, and so it might have been, until two hours before the end when the bites dried up.   At the weigh in I had 13lbs 6ozs for a share of third silvers with the Chef.   "They will come George" on peg 14 won with 18lbs 14ozs and Simon second with 14lbs 10ozs.

The overall winner was "Man with no Name" on peg 14B with 74lbs 14ozs, beating Tonto on peg 15 who had 62lbs, and Woolly on peg 13 with 52lbs 12ozs.  As you can see by the results, the weight's came from one area, the calm sunny side.

There was nothing unusual to report, the lad's were acting something near normal for a change;  very worrying!

On Wednesday its Sedges Brick, and next Sunday we visit Avalon, there is plenty of room at both venues.

Wednesday 10th May 2017 - Viaduct Match Lake

We fished at Viaducts today, there were fourteen pegs available and fourteen of Dad's Army manned them.   Weatherwise the day was perfect but not peaceful.   The carp had decided to spawn, and were causing quite a ruckus in the margins, we wondered if it would fish!

Young Badger Matt was looking after us today, so he did the peg numbers and the Golden Peg.   I collected the lads' sheckles and sorted the finances, this completed we made the draw.   Tonto got the Golden Peg number 49, and I drew 44 sandwiched betwen Big Bird and the Nasty Sherrif.    We then went to the bank to sort out the kit, and make ready for the off.   Horny Hedgehog alias the Shakespearean Bummer Boy was there to toot his horn for the off, and things got underway.

At the start I was catching small fish and a suntan, while Rob to my left couldn't buy a bite.   Needless to say old Nasty was doing his fair share of catching, but denying everything!! Nothing changes.   Horny, two along, was complaining about the noisy oversexed carp, and in doing so making more than his share of noise.

After an hour I lost my first rig, and not long after another; there was a question mark over the parentage of some scaly creatures.   Worse was to come, I put my top two on the rest, and was just sampling a much needed swallow of Thatchers Gold when I looked down, and there was my top sections disappearing across the lake.    This sparked off a running commentary by a couple of my sympathetic friends? on the progress of the pole and carp, and some suggestive remarks how I could retrieve it!  I don't think these lads attended Sunday School like I had to; Philistines.

The sun shone all day, and at the toot for all out Matt came to weigh us in.  George had done well on a hard day for silvers, and won with 10lbs 1oz.   Merlin edges  the overall with 20bs 15ozs closely followed by the Chef and Horny.

            On Sunday it's Shiplate Main Lake, and Wednesday next it's Sedges Brick.

Sunday 7th May 2017 - Summerhayes Longs Lake

Twenty two members of the Hook Line and Sinker fishing club arrived at Summerhayes to fish Longs Lake, which looked in good nick.   The wind was still from the north, but we were promised sunshine, so hoped the fish would come out to play.

Treasure was doing the collecting and dispensing of the coin of the realm, and Horny Hedgehog was doing the draw, assisted by the Nasty Sheriff, the Golden Pegs were 8 and 29.

The business done, so it was off to our positions to prepare for the challenge to come.  I drew peg 29 with Merlin to my left and Tony Newell on my right.   I wanted to fish caster today with maggot in reserve.

Horny tooted and we got underway   First chuck the float dipped but no fish! and that was how my day continued.   It was not all doom and gloom, others were catching on what turned out to be a warm and sunny day.

At the weigh in that Nasty Old Sheriff won the silvers, with 11lbs 15ozs, and Merlin got overall with 66lbs 13ozs.   There is a special mention for "Man With No Name" who took third overall by default; well done mate.

   Wednesday it's Viaducts Match Lake which is full. Next Sunday it's Shiplate,

                      which is limited to maximum number 22.

Wednesday 3rd May 2017 - Avalon Fisheries

It was Avalon today, and as I looked at the eleven of Dad's Army on parade,  I thought eight would fish for silvers, and that would make my job harder.

Vic was in charge of the fishery today, so he was responsible for peg numbers, the Golden Peg was number 7, which I drew.   I took the lads' loot and settled with Vic.  The draw completed, so it was off to the bank.

Tonto was on my left, and was into the carp first chuck, to my left three pegs away was Treasure.   This is a good silvers venue, and it lived up to that reputation today.

I was fishing the five metre line, feeding regularly, and fishing a tad over depth.  This resulted in a steady flow of skimmers and roach to various sizes.   Except for the cold north-easterly it was a very good day.  

 I could see the Nasty Old Sheriff's landing net working hard, and I reckoned I was way behind    George drew peg one, but I was not worried as he thought the peg couldn't win, so he was beaten before he started.

Chef on peg three had his cooker on high, and did the business overall with 54lbs 4ozs.  Sheriff weighed 21lbs 13ozs, and myself 22lbs 4ozs, which put a smile on my face.   That was until Tivi Dave weighed 25lbs3ozs, but he was beaten by the end peg "Ballcock" who managed a great 35lbs on the waggler, his comment was "did I really catch that"!!!

Sunday 30th April 2017 - Sedges Tile Lake

We fished at Sedges today and twenty lads' arrived for a full lake.   Everyone wanted to draw a high number in order to have the strong wind on their backs.

Treasure had a break today, so I had to do the business while the others had hot drinks and saw to their gear.

At the draw George drew 27,  which was the Golden Peg, with Sheriff on 28, and myself on 26;  we were fishing into a strong wind which, after two hours,  was accompanied by steady rain; not great.   I decided not to struggle with the long pole, just five sections, hoping they would come to my feed.

The Horny Hedgehog tooted and we got underway.   Straight away George was giving me a running commentary about how the Sheriff was catching hundred weights of fish, and how far behind he was!!   I was catching with my chosen method, and in the first to hours it looked good, but then my fish backed off; I was not prepared to follow them due to the conditions; I must be getting soft in my dotage.

Jamie was weighing us in and I was doing the board.   On our side of the lake the weight's were not good , but got better as we moved up. All the top overall weight's

came from the high numbers, with Pete the Chef cooking up another great catch to win with 144lbs 10ozs.   Sausage got second with 75lbs 10ozs, and Shane was third with 48lbs 8ozs.   Nasty OLD Sheriff won silvers with 19lbs 2ozs, not quite the hundredwieghts as suggested by someone?

Well done everyone on such a miserable day weather wise.   It  must get warmer please!!!

       Wednesday it's Avalon, and next Sunday Summerhayes.  I can take more on

                              both venues.  I answer all calls, so get on with it.

Wednesday 26th April 2017 - Trinity Ash Lake

This Wednesday morning was frosty and the winds cold, blowing from the North East!  Did we have any "GREAT EXPECTATIONS", I thought not.  The lad's were in good cheer, and parted with their money quite easily, so all the business was completed.

Misha was looking after us today, dishing out the hot drinks and selecting the pegs to be fished,   The Golden Peg was number seven.    Horny was with us today, he had so much gel on his hair it stuck up, and he looked like an insult to a SCARED HEDGEHOG;   he must be the oldest swinger in town.

At the draw I got 19, and was well pleased, as the fish were there the last time we fished here, but sadly not today.

As expected the going was tough, even the Chef next to me struggled, which made me feel not so bad.

At the weigh in the Merlin had magically put 20lbs 10ozs into his net, where they came from nobody knew.   Well done Brian.   The silvers were sparse, with George on the top, closely followed by a HEDGEHOG.

    Our next match on Sunday is at Sedges Tile, which is full, and next Wednesday

               on Avalon where I would like more names please.
