Sunday 28th August 2016 - Shiplate Main Lake

Eventually, 22 arrived to fish a venue not fished for a while, and we were all anticipating a good contest.

While Treasure collected the money   I sorted out the peg numbers with Steve and Carole who drew the golden peg number 3A.   It was then time for the main draw, no one wanted peg 8,  but Treasure got unlucky  and Big Bird drew the golden peg.

I drew peg 13,  which is probably the best silvers peg on the lake, that is until the mess I made tackling it.   After one and a half hours I just had a few ninjas to my name.   I decided to fish caster for small fish hoping for bonuses, but it was not to be.    Tungsten on peg 15 won overall and the silvers, but as there is no double bubble, Stan the Man Butt took silvers.

This is a venue I always enjoy, the hospitality from Steve Carol and Reggie is top notch, and the fishery well cared for.   Many thanks from all of HLS.

Next Wednesday we are at Avalon, and on Sunday we visit Viaducts Cary.

Wednesday 24th August 2016 - Trinity Woodlands

We had a good turnout with 14 of Dad's Army on muster parade, all ready to part with their cash and try their luck on what promised to be a great day weatherwise.

Misha opened up for us and with the help of Lilly provided us with tea and coffee, we were then ready for business.   I collected the money and selected the pegs to be fished.   Baby Lilly chose the golden peg 23, and it was time for the draw.   Bolten George got lucky and reckoned he would win by a distance.  We all know what happens to blokes who boast!!!

Off to the bank, I was on peg 6 with Spod Coombs on my left and looking forward to a quiet match.  There were fish blowing,  but were they bream OR big scaleys?   I had a lazy day with five sections at the most.  I fed sweetcorn, caster, and my groundbait mix.

I shouted the all in and fed a small amount starting with the corn, after 15 minutes I had one carp in the net and lost two.   I decided to stay with the corn feeding in small amount regularly, this is often the method I prefer using cupping gear for accuracy.   I started to catch small skimmers with an occasional quality fish until about halfway through, then things went quiet, so I changed to worm and a few more entered the net, but very slowly. so it was back to the corn.  The last hour was more productive, and at the weigh in  I was just short of 20lbs, plus a few carp,   A good days fishing.

Sheriff , Tony N and myself did the weighing, and when we came to George there was a smug look on his face,  his tongue was out,  and he was oozing confidence   He weighed in with 20lbs 1oz, just 6ozs more the me,  OH DEAR.   Tungsten was next and he became everyone's best mate when he weighed 26lbs 13ozs.  Well done Dave.

There was a lot of fish caught, the complete results are below.

Next Sunday its Shiplate Main, and Wednesday Avalon

                                  It's good to fish.

Random silliness from the chairman.....

Bob is testing out his new mugging top kit......

And, it would seem that Bob is becoming more computer savvy.....

Sunday 21st August 2016 - Viaduct Campbell

All twenty who had booked in turned out for our Sunday outing to Viaduct.......... "A small miracle".   The lads were in good spirits with lots of banter and leg pulling, even while paying out money to Treasure.

I collected the peg numbers and the sheet from Badger, Helen drew the golden peg number 129, and we all went back to the cars for the draw.   It all went to plan!! George was moaning because he had drawn a carp peg he said.   Tonto drew somewhere in the jungle,  he could not cast because of the trees.   The Sheriff said if he was drawn next to me he would go home, and sure enough that's what happened, but he stayed.   Well all I have to say is," look what you old moaners weighed in", but they were only acting naturally, so they must have been enjoying themselves.

Horny tooted the off, and from the start there were lots of fish being caught, making the prospect of another good match.   Horny managed to break a section and lost another in the lake!!   Most of the lads thought he ought to be sectioned himself!!   The other thing thing of note was "Sheriff and the Weeping Willow" that sounds like a good name for a book.  Anyway he pulled out a pesky one and put his rig up the tree;  he tugged on his pole, and now his top section was up the same tree;  mutter mutter mutter, he disappeared and came back with Tonto's sectional weed cutter, five minuted later the top section of the reed cutter was hanging from the offending tree.  By this time half a dozen of the lads were having a good laugh, having stopped fishing to see what was coming next.   Well the outcome was, he got everything back, only loosing a 10 shot, the jammy old git.  We have put him in for an audition for the next Tarzan film, he would make a good Cheetah.

The match went well, with five topping the ton, and the silvers winning with 49lbs 1oz , can't complain at that.   Thanks to Badger and Colin for weighing us in, we look forward to our next visit.

Full results below.

On Wednesday it's Trinity, and Sunday next its Shiplate Main lake.

                                          Keep fishing.

Wednesday 17th August 2016 - Landsend Match Lake

It was going to be a hot day weather-wise. we hoped it would be the same for the fishing.

Ten of Dad's Army were on parade, so we had five on each side of the lake, so plenty of room for everyone.   They were all good pegs I picked them myself?   I paid Di and she drew peg 21 for the golden peg.    So all the business was done it was back to the lads to make the draw," Graham the Burb" drew the golden peg, so it was off to our positions.

I drew peg 2 with Tonto on my left and Robot Duck on my right.   Kev was across the lake on 23 looking very comfy with lots of weapons set up!! but had he got the ammo?

Again I was going for the silvers, there were a mix of bream, roach, and crucians here , but the hardest part was avoiding those greedy carp who will take any bait.   I shouted the all in and we got underway.   After half an hour Tonto had lost two feeders and was mumbling, not under his breath, I tried to cheer him up with a verse of Old McDonald but got a lot of abuse, sorry.

As I thought, from all the activity in the water, the carp were hungry, anyway that's my excuse for only catching 12lbs 9ozs of silvers, plus 37lbs of unwanted carp.

George had an eventful day, he broke two sets of top sections and lost three rigs, but said he was "NOT MOANING"

Overall a good match, everyone catching fish.   That wily old QUACKER came out tops again, who's going to beat him??

Sunday 14th August - Summerhayes, Longs Lake

19 of the lads fished on a warm sunny day, who cared if the fish didn't turn up!!! Treasure collected the money and did the business.   Peter selected the balls and all was ready for the draw.  There has been a change for the golden peg, because of the amount of money in the kitty, we have upped it to £50 .   This week it's peg 25,  Woolly drew it, only to say he did not want it, and like the gentleman he is it was left intact.

I drew peg 1 with Danny the Sheriff on peg 39 to my right, and Treasure to my right on peg 4.   None of us are very optimistic, and Danny commented our nuggets will end up in Bolton George's deep pockets.   This was the way of it when we weighed in.   Everyone caught fish, but there was a distinct lack of silvers for the 50% of us who liked to catch them.

There was a tie for overall place with both Tony Newell and Dave Allen weighing in at 57lbs 12ozs   The King Steve was third with 48lbs 4ozs.   The silvers went to George with 10lbs, Tungsten second with 8lbs 8ozs, and third the Sheriff with 6lbs.

On different note............Kev's dog spoke to me on the phone asking why he hadn't seen his Kev's name on the blog.  I had to reply that he Kev had not fallen in recently.  Three barks and a yap later I took it he understood, "Archie" that was.

The full results are below.

Next Wednesday it's Landsend, and Sunday Viaducts Campbell.

Wednesday 10th August 2016 - Trinity Woodlands

Thirteen of Dad's Army were on parade, ready to assault Woodlands on a very blustery day.   Misha and Lily were supplying very welcome hot drinks, and they drew the golden peg number 7, which was drawn by "Wee Dram Billy".

I chose the pegs so everyone had plenty of room.  Then off to the bank and I shouted the all in.

My day started slowly and got worse, as a struggle with a large beastie ended up with my top 2 in five pieces;  I vented my feelings with some choice words, and carried on struggling for the rest of the match.

The rest were doing well, ton up   Robot Duck quacked again with 121lbs 12ozs to win overall with Treasure second with 85lbs    The Sheriff won the silvers with 22lbs 8ozs, and Bolton George a long way back with 9lbs 12ozs of ninjas in second place.

The full results are below.

On Sunday it's Summerhayes, and on Wednesday at Landsend.

                                    Keep doing it?

Sunday 7th August 2016 - Avalon Fisheries

We were fishing at Avalon on Sunday 7th August. The weather was overcast at first but it turned out to be a nice day.   The car park soon filled up,  this included Ian who was looking after us.

The draw numbers were sorted and the golden peg selected,  it was peg 12.    Twenty two anglers were fishing today.   The draw was made and Wooly got lucky.   Myself was not so happy as I drew peg 24, very good for carp, but not for silvers, which I fish for.

Horny tooted and we were off, six hours trying to outcatch each other.   Robot Duck came out joint top with Dave Allen at 81lbs 9ozs.   Tonto was third with 69lbs.   Tunsten Dave won the silvers with 26lbs 8ozs, the King second with 26lbs 8ozs, and Sausage Bowyer third with 19lbs.  Well done everyone.

On Wednesday it's Trinity Wodlands and next Sunday at Summerhays Longs.  Looking forward seeing you then.

Wednesday 3rd August 2016 - Sedges Tile Lake

Twelve of Dad's Army on parade at Sedges on Tile, all smartly turned out ready for duty.  Denise was dishing out drinks, while Jamie sorted out his balls with the peg numbers on.

We had no Treasure today, he was on husbandly duties, a special birthday for a special wife. I trust his wallet was lighter at the end on the day;  I hope they had a good one.

I collected the money and paid Jamie, after which we made the draw.   Spod Coombs, brother of Tonto, drew the golden peg number 29, and we all marched off to take up our positions on the front line.

I was quite happy with my draw on peg 32, I had Tonto to my right and Ninja to my left.  My usual tactics for silvers here at this time of year is sweetcorn over groundbait, with small cubes of meat for back up, which was not needed today.

The all in sounded, it was not long before skimmers were entering the net at regular intervals, and I was having a good day.   I had two very welcome visitors, the first was Chris Rossiter to tell me he had a new set of wheels, and so Rosso Mafia would be back in action.   The second was Bend it with Bendell, who is suffering with back problems which will prevent him from fishing until cured. All Dad's Army wish you a complete recovery Mike, and soon back with us as your company is missed.

A strong wind was making our side of the lake difficult, but at the weigh in results showed we had done rather well.

Robot Duck was top with 130lbs, Ninja 2nd with 118lbs 2ozs, and Tonto 3rd with 111lbs 4ozs .  I topped with sivers with 45lbs 4ozs, Sheriff 2nd with 29lbs, and Bolton George 3rd with 28lbs 6ozs.    The full results are below, well done everybody.

On Sunday its Avalon, on Wednesday a visit to Trnity, and Sunday 14th we are at Summerhays Longs.

                                       Enjoy your Fishing

Dad's Army

A quick reminder of the Wednesday Sanatogen crowd..............

Sunday 31st July 2016 - Landsend Fisheries

This match was relocated to Landsend because Badger had concerns about the oxygen levels in Cary Lake Viaducts, which I believe have been resolved; so good luck Steve we will see you soon.

We were fishing Johns and Top Lakes, 22 of the lads turned out to enjoy the action.   We broke our rule about over-spilling on to two lakes, but this was on the recommendations of Mike and Tony Rixon, both of whom have more knowledge than us.

GWR,  the King and myself walked the lakes selecting the pegs to be fished.   I then made out the tickets and drew the golden peg with Mike.   Sheriff did the sheet, and the draw was made, with George drawing the golden peg number 50.

It was a long walk to our pegs, but its great to have natural banks to fish from;  I drew peg 68 and was more than satisfied.

I wanted to fish caster over groundbait, and intended to stick with it.  I had small roach and rudd to begin with, then nothing. The sun was very bright and hot, and the carp were running riot all over my swim.   Just after two o'clock I began to get bites again as the sun moved off my swim, but still the carp were playing havoc with my light gear, so I decided to call it a day half and hour early.

Summing up, it has been another good day for the Hook Line and Sinker Angling Club, with lots of fish in nets .  A big thank you to Mike for providing an excellent venue.

Full results below.

Next Wednesday we are at Sedges Tile, and Sunday we visit Avalon with plenty of room, so please book early.
